Hi guys

This is such an interesting thread and something I am now facing.

As some of you may know I sold my business a few months ago. I started it from scratch and nobody knew of me. I was at the bottom of the pile! No leader, no guru and certainly no expert. The competition was huge and I never thought I would become a leader or even manage to sell my business. Getting clients, gaining an online presence, pr etc. was a huge challenge. But I love a challenge and I'm very competitive, its what drives me :D

By the time I had come to sell my business, I had offices, employed staff, was in national and local press, been on the radio several times, speaker at business events and attended Downing Street.

I'm not writing this post to show off as we all have our own achievements but my point is that I started from nothing then (and I had never been in business so knew literally nothing!) but achieved huge success.

I'm now at the bottom of the pile with my opportunity. Nobody has heard of me within the MLM world. My competitors are doing incredibly well and at the moment aren't even giving me the time of day :D

I believe strongly that I will become a leader and an expert again. I don't worry or feel threatened by my competitors, if anything I use them. I look at what they are doing, what I don't like and what I do like and the things I like that they are doing - do better and bigger :D

Competition is healthy, its what drives us and we can learn from it. We all have to start somewhere and with determination, hard work and passion we can all get there if that's what we want.

Remember that a lot of these guru's have created their stories, their profiles. How true are they? Do you actually know how successful they really are. I entered into an award for Best Mumpreneur of the Year, on the back of that I managed to get an invite to Downing Street, be on TV, loads of press and speaking engagements. All from entering an award that ANYONE can enter.

Be creative, look outside the box. Think of things that are different. Don't be scared to try different things if it works for you.

Becoming a leader doesn't happen overnight so take your time. It will happen if you really want it to.

Hey Paul,

Whats up my man! Awesome Post dude.

I see all my friends (also the "Big Dawgs" in BN like Robert, Athuro and many others) making replies so you know this is something that many are feeling.

Here is what I believe...

Many of the "Gurus" that try to teach us today, DO NOT know what its like for someone getting started now because when they got started, like you mentioned, there was a lot less competition and all they did was pay for cheap clicks on Adwords.

And because of all the competition now they are creating courses on Manipulation and things that REALLY DON'T MATTER but they do this because they can make the value seem larger.

Today we have much more competition, video marketing, web 2.0, social media, social bookmarking, blogs, building lists, SEO and so much more... Its a lot harder BUT we also have many more opportunities to DOMINATE, softwares to automate processes, services are much cheaper, and many more people to network with in any market.

Here is the problem, in my opinion...

EVERYONE IS SKIPPING THE BASICS OF BUILDING A SOLID FOUNDATION!

I myself did this for over a year. Buying every $2-5 k course, joining $500/m coaching clubs w/ the biggest names in the Industry... But you know what? While I learned AMAZING THINGS I will always cherish... NONE OF IT APPLIED TO ME YET!

This is the problem. I studied "Product Launch Formula" and "Mass Control" , joined the Guru Masterminds and many more... BEFORE we even have a product to sell, a blog to sell it on or an audience on Social Media Channels (well this is what I did).

Then I realized... NONE OF THAT STUFF I WAS LEARNING WAS GOING TO MAKE ME MONEY!

Its the BASIC YET CRUCIAL stuff such as writing articles, building my audience/brand, filling my blog with AWESOME CONTENT, etc that is more valuable then the paid stuff...

...And taking ACTIONS THAT RESULTS IN TRAFFIC. Like my nephew Corey (who just turned 16 last week.. You gotta love it) mentioned earlier.

Now don't get me wrong I learned a ton from those guys but it was all INFORMATION & tons of NOTE TAKING!

But you know what once you have the basics down you will love it.

The problem is LEARNING its is more fun then doing the time consuming tasks... Right?

But, after watching a Tony Robbins video I learned that TAKING ACTION is not enough... TAKING ACTIONS WHILE BELIEVING THAT IT IS GOING TO RESULT IN MANY MANY REWARDS IS WHAT DOES COUNT!

If you write an article and while your doing your thinking... Ah this is not even going to rank...

...Then you will do a shitty job and you will NOT get results.

So, as with any problem, I always try to see the good in everything and here I would say that I learned something that could have saved me literally $1000's and 1000's of hours...

1st START WITH THE EASY STUFF!

Thats it! Thats the big secret. And while many know this, not enough of us live by it.

STOP watching videos and training that doesn;t apply to your business where you are currently at and take actions everyday that can actually result in rewards.

Sitting on the couch taking notes won;t make you money... If so I would never have to work another day in my life.

I hope this helps... And while this is a basic answer, if you love by it I promise you that you will win!

Kindest Regards,
~Kevin

Most of the people in this community care. Join these guru lists--under another e-mail. Study good lines. What makes you open their e-mail, click their links, follow their sales process and take pictures of each page. Spend part of your day studying the competition. But don't open ALL your e-mails--especially before you go to work. There is more opportunity and FREE training now than they ever had. They had to buy expensive courses--you don't. Join some $1 trials for free training. Listen to Mike Dillard's free videos. You don't have to buy ALL the courses this week. Get some motivational DVDs: Tony Robbins etc. (your pubic library will rent them to you). We can help get you out of the funk--but you have to work too!

It's all in YOUR mind! :P

Hey Paul,

I've seen this cycle over and over again all over the place and I've seen people go nowhere because they get caught up in thinking they're doing something just because they bought a course that only tells them to go out and buy another course. That's how these gurus make money, they give you a piece of information without telling you how to use it and say you need to know this to do that. So you buy a course they have that says learn how to do this and the cycle starts all over again. It's a tough circle to break but it's possible and I have by finding someone who trains me by actually showing me the process and the actions I needed to take... And then I TAKE THEM!

It all comes down to ACTION! As long as you take ACTIONS everyday that CAN ACTUALLY RESULTS IN TRAFFIC, LEADS &/or BRAND BUILDING... You will win!

Best of Luck,
Corey

Yes it all sounds very familiar...There are probably 1% of Internet Gurus that do give you what they had promised, and they are the ones that are going to succeed in the long run because they are using attraction marketing. But all the rest of them just want to make as much money on you as possible, because they just sell one piece of a puzzle each time. So, if you buy just one of their products, you are not going to get what they had promised. The only way you are going to get what they had promised is when you buy all of the products that they have. Well, good luck to you all on finding that 1% and learning from them.

Your opening line says it all bro. Your MINDSET need an overhaul. Do you think the Gurus that made it thought the way you do when they were coming up?? If they did they would be at the bottom too. Success is not about luck. Being in the right place at the right time can help, but if you dont know what to do or have the confidence to do it your screwed. Im not trying to beat up on you, just think that tough love is better than none...

When you get email from someone you don't want to receive email from scroll to the bottom and click the Unsubscribe link. I doubt you are getting Spammed by Gurus. If you are, find their ISP and report them and/or forward the email to the product owner or the Affiliate program.

Very interesting side point here. One IM "guru" in particular recently got "called-out" by his readers that all he was sending were pitches to his list. This, despite that he was teaching to build relationships with subscribers and give them good content.

Anyway, my point is that he listened! He actually sent out a great pdf document on the future of IM with fantastic content today.

So, really, just get off lists from people who all they do is send pitches. Its like someone in MLM, and all they say is "buy my stuff" or "join my downline". People in general don't want to hear that and you will lose the interest of your subscribers if you continue it.

Hi Paul!
I have also met such "guru's" and I have stopped all relationships with them.

I consider these guys simple opportunists and they ask you to join their new best income opp RIGHT NOW or you'll miss the chance of making big money.
After less than 6 months later they find another best opportunity and you should join that one because you'll have a chance to make even more money.

These guys just make me sick!

Just a quick comment.

As long as people seeing you being negative and frowning...

It's going to take you that much longer to get your business going.

Start with a smile. It is something that you can give away for free. People accept it willingly and it provides value. It is the most easily duplicatable system you will ever find. You smile, they smile. You're already winning!

It's a simple start and one that will begin to change things for you. As long as your using that picture on Better Networker....if you're using BN to help your biz, your ruining your chances and wasting your time.

Not only would I not follow someone with that negative attitude pasted all over their face, I wouldn't let them even enroll under me as a distributor. Just being honest.~Scott

Thanks for the advice Scott.
However that photo is not what I see as a problem right now. What I'm looking for is sound clear advice of how to get my Affiliate Marketing Business going.
Right now I've taken the advice of people, who have promised the world and left me with nothing. However, they've informed me they are succeeding. Putting a smile on it is not going to get the money and sweat I've put into my own business back for right now. And it's not just me, it's hundreds and thousands of people out there.
I'm looking to get a business started without going broke before I start it, and working with someone I can trust, who's not going to waste my time and effort.
The way it's looking now I may be able to start a business by exposing leaders or so called Guru's that do not follow through on the statements they are making. Right now it looks like a service everyone out here would need.

PS. I'm not being rude, but I had to look twice at your own photo profile to check if you where smiling. How come you didn't look straight into the camera?
