To Laura,
Don't get discouraged with Twitter. There are many of us who try and respond personally to every DM and @reply. Just be you is the best advice. I have met many great people through Twitter..mostly just by everyday "conversation" and then eventually an email and then a phone call. Many have become business contacts..but it began with getting to know each other. Think of it as a process, just like getting to know new people in real life.

To Alex,
I respond to you on twitter and you do the same back to me. Just stay on that track. Look for interesting things that people are saying and put in your two cents..that's what gets conversations going in 140 characters. Some will respond. Some won't. Pay attention to those who do.

Someone asked, "How do people find me"..on twitter. They can go to search.twitter.com and put in a keyword..More likely, they start following people that someone else is following..or you follow them and then they follow you.

Enjoy twitter guys. It is the best way to make connections that is also fast and fun. I even just wrote a blog post about Twitter Guilt..because it is so fun and still so worthwhile for business.

Ever since the Twitter buzz has started - I've seen a increase in my Followers. I know not to pitch any offers....but some people don't. And I do notice people trying to be too friendly...sorta like it's a front. Oh well.....for those of use who know how to use social media to our advantage.....keep up the good work and create the 2009 you desire.

I'm pretty sure ping.fm does what you're talking about, it updates multiple locations at once. Otherwise there often links between individual API's, like facebook and twitter, you can set those to update off of each other, etc.

But yeah, ping.fm appears to allow you to update multiple sites and locations from one central place.

With regards to social media as a whole, there is a lot to soak in after watching videos like Perry's and similar videos by other people.

There is also a lot more to contributing to the growth of your business. It isn't just about signing up on Twitter and getting thousands of followers. People have trouble branding themselves as a trustworthy leader and source of valuable information when they're building their own capture pages and making youtube videos... with twitter you've got 140 characters, it is that much harder.

Twitter should not be one step away from a capture or sales page, and shouldn't be used as a soapbox to drive sales.

Marketing in Social Media isn't about direct marketing, it is just about getting to know people, providing a means to reach and out connect with people and provide ways for them to get more information about you if they want it. Keywords there are *if they want it* not if you want to give it to them. If you're providing value, you'll connect with people that want it, and as long as you've got everything linked together well they'll be able to find it. Kind of a deeper down the rabbit hole kind of thing.

Effectively coordinating your Social Media efforts is key.

Take care,

jM

Aerionmiles, log into Facebook and on your home page, click Settings then select Application Settings. The Twitter app will be in the list. I've also read that http://ping.fm will update several social networks; but I have not tried it.

Lana, Thanks. I appreciate your fast response!!!

Yeah it is a very simple concept once you get your head around. Just pretend that you are at a party and you are just chatting to people. Its the same concept on here. You wouldn't go up to someone at a party, hand them a business card and walk away. It doesn't work like that.

Give and you will recieve, normally ten fold. If you give to people on these sites and take interest in what they are doing, they will naturally take interest in you. I myself am not on here to promote my business. Im also on facebook and twitter. I never try to sell my business, but i have leads coming in from all over the world! It's great! But you are right, so many people blatantly try to sell their business to you and tag their website on the end of what they are saying. They DONT get it. And i never look at their site if they do that. My 2 cents anyway. : )
