Google is far more than just a search engine, and just in case you didn't know. Facebook also has its own search engine. Just as YouTube does, So in that sense Google is already ahead of Facebook.Because they own YouTube.

And in any case, it is far to early to start comparing the two. Lets see what happens over the next couple of years.

Ilka and you all!Hi!!

I do really agree with the Courtney point of view!

Excuse my abuse! That is right on! That is exactly what is going to happen.

Proof? You want proof? Is that right? here we go :

1** It is very well known that the Stock Market reflect the emotional state (feeling) of the general population...no wonder why the stock market is in bear territory...people do not have a positive attitude
Right now...there is way too much uncertainty in the air.

And??

Hold on...hold on please...Geezz! Bear with me for a bit longer!
We all live in an ocean of energy and we all are interconnected! Yes! Believe it or not!

The NET has become like a universal BRAIN! Yes! every one of us are a tiny neuron in the collective MIND which is compose of about 7.000.000.000 seven billions neurons in this whole planet collective human brain!

That is why the next paradigm shift is that in this collective brain...we will rely on the counsel of LEADERS OF OPINION!...Oh...yes you can quote me on this...I will not go after you...my lawyers already have more than one Mercedez Benz! Just kidding

We are in an united Planet Earth Space Ship...we are all together...sorry for those who do not like me...which is the majority...we need to learn how to get along!...we are all crew in this spaceship.

God went on to say that"HE get to know when a little tiny bird fall death...yes! We are all interconnected in this ocean of energy.

That is why I do agree with the Courtney!

Be well,

Roger Aburto
P.S. Sorry the people who believe that being nice or polite or professional does not qualify for LEADER OF OPINION ...Would you trust the advise of a an hypocritical that is so eager to be nice or accepted?

CourtneyJames wrote:Wow, I thought I had already comment on this post.

But it disappeared? Hmmm...

Definitely been keeping an eye on this and I'm started to see +1 on many of my favorite websites.

My two cents:

The way I see it is that it's a sign that the web and the offline world are growing closer together. The Facebook "like" button was an early sign of that, as was the "retweet" button, and so on...

But with the power of Google behind the new +1 button I wouldn't count it out from the get go.

While it certainly wouldn't be the first time that Google introduced a feature that failed to "catch on"... in my opinion it's the next logical step in search...

Maybe I think a little too far ahead for most people. But I can see the day when everybody leaves comments ON everything they see in the real world... every person they meet... every restaurant they go... every new store... every sale... every ad... in the real world through their cell phones with augmented reality technology...

You already see this with services like "FourSquare". The "like" button and +1 make something like this instantaneous if you don't have "time" to comment. You simply click "like" or +1. What's easier?

If it isn't already happening right now today then it will happen in the next few years.

There will be no difference between the offline world and the online on. It will all be connected.

Not speaking "sci-fi" here. We have this technology in our pockets right now.

Maybe that's the long way of saying "hell yeah! +1 will catch up... or catch on..."

But whether it does or doesn't... something similar will eventually...

When you're sitting at Starbucks you'll be "liking" or "plus oneing" that new coffee you tried. When you buy a pair of shoes you will be instantaneously telling your friends...

We already do it... just not quite as often or as fast as the "kids" will be doing it soon.

Courtney, thanks, loved your reply!

I see more and more people catching on to this and +1ing content they like. I also see the +1 button popping up at more places around the web.

I thought you touched on an interesting point above. Like the Starbucks example. It's definitely going to happen and I'm looking forward to seeing this whole thing evolve.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

Pretty cool video you made, thanks for sharing Ilka.

To your question I will say; it do not really matter (only for the two companies), we just have to use what available in the best way we can.

~Søren

Thanks, Søren! ...I think it will matter eventually though. Courtney had an awesome point, namely that the online and offline world are growing together. Eventually, we will be +1ing our favorite coffee at Starbucks or our favorites store, etc. on our iPhones. And of course when people will be searching for those stores (or whatever) it will matter in the search engines. It will be cool to watch this evolving :)

I believe they are entirely different. Google is a search engine and the +1 feature of Google focus on the search engine ranking factor while the FB "Like" is focus on social proof of a brand. Although the +1 can be a social proof but the result is more on search result.

Hi Shelly,

Thank you so much for chiming in! Sorry, didn't see your comment until I hit the "submit" button.

I agree with you Shelly as far as the "social thing" Google +1 might not be able to catch up. But, it's not just a social thing anymore now. If Google starts putting a lot of SEO weight on the +1 button then I think it will leap way ahead in popularity. Because, isn't that our ultimate goal as marketers to rank high in the search engines?

Just my thoughts :)

Ilka

P.S. Cool video about Google +1. I believe it even made it on to my paperli that day. At least I think that's where I caught it. You know what they say about "great minds" :)
