I guess I don't qualify as most Ben, I've never been in BN :D I! :))

That proves there is no right or wrong way, you can build a business offline, online, or whatever works best for you.

Makes sense. My business has been built primarily through local networking (BNI, Chamber of Commerce, etc.)

As you might expect, I got referrals very early on with BNI (since it's a leads exchange organization), but surprisingly, it has taken 3+ years to finally start getting some direct business through the Chambers. It's taken this long for people to really get to know me and SendOutCards...and realize that we are here to stay.

So...if you do start building your network through local business organizations, realize that it may take awhile for you to get their business. But if you stick with it, you will eventually have more referrals that you can handle.

Did you know that MOST of the Send Out Cards leaders have been in BNI?

BNI stands for Business Networking International
http://www.bni.com

BNI is a referral organization. It is a networking organization for the purpose of giving and receiving referrals.

One of the advantages of BNI over groups like your Chamber of Commerce is that in each chapter can only have one person from each specific industry. You can only have one plumber, one greeting card guy, one residential realtor, one commercial realtor, etc. That way you are protected for your referrals.

Send Out Cards actually has a partnership with BNI. We're mentioned on the BNI web site.

The founder of BNI Dr. Ivan Misner spoke at the 2009 SOC National Convention.

Dr. Misner also mentions SOC by name in TWO of his books.
The 29% Solution
Truth or Delusion

This gives you a lot of credibility when you are speaking to a BNI group.

Also as a Send Out Cards rep you can offer a lot of value to your group. You can send cards on behalf of your group to all your visitors, your new members, etc. You can also send out invitations when your group has an open house. They will LOVE having a Send Out Cards rep in their group.

So if you're looking for an edge on other SOC reps you should investigate BNI. :)
