I would have to say that I am more GREY HAT, as there is always a BLACK HAT element of all SEO in ALL FAIRNESS

I will have to agree with you on the fact that any SEO technique is Black Hat. SEO stands for search engine optimization. You are tweaking your website or any property for that matter with specific techniques, methods or scripts to get the best ranking. This is all artificial because you are not targeting a human being you're targeting a robot, in order to get human readers. If you want to be truly white hat you would need to post content strictly for human visitors and not any search engines

I use only White Hat SEO because it is a ethical way to increase your ranking and from use it no any fear of penalty.

Hi Cheryl interesting point you have made. But let me ask you this.

If Google really penalizes websites for using Black Hat SEO Techniques, don't you think a competitor can easily use behind lines Black Hat SEO Techniques to penalized their competitors?

What do you think about that?

My stand on this issue is that there are SEO Techniques that sometimes are categorized as Black Hat and they help you on your rankings besides that the fact that you don't get penalized for using them.

On the other hard, yes there are also other Black Hat SEO Techniques that really are nasty and people still can use them, but the can easily get banned or penalized.

Black hat techniques do not work as effectively anymore, and they will continue to lose strength as Google develops better and better algorithms. If you operate on a purely white-hat level, you may be beaten by black hatters in the short term, but in the long term you are assured victory.
