Google Quality score

Postby andrew collinson on Tue Jun 22, 2010 4:53 pm

I am using Google adwords to drive traffic to two sales pages. One gets lots of impressions but the other gets nothing due to a 1/10 quality score.Want to know why one is OK and the other is not.Can I post URLs of each here so someone can tell me why?

Is the page that gets lots of traffic converting well?

If it were me, I'd just dump the dog and start a new page with similar
words, graphics, layout as the good page.
Then split-test again.

the two pages are on different domains and are about different things.

arent there any other keywords you want to bid on?

Each page has to be inline with what you are promoting keywords for...

However, even once that is completed, you always have to be wary for Google to start off with a good quality score, and then drop it very quickly. I have seen well written pages, with solid meta, domains, structure, etc., start off with a high quality score, than within just a couple of short days, magically drop substantially, forcing the advertiser to pay substantially more per click (even if, and especially if, there is no one else advertising for that particular keyphrase)...

It has soured many people on Google Ad-words, and although it is unfortunate, as ad-campaigns are not once they once were, keep adjusting and you will find some value. But first, start with the basics, and ensure these pages are lining up well with what Google believes they are talking about. One good place to start is the Google SK tool: http://www.google.com/sktool/# which evaluates your page for keywords that they believe are relevant. It also tells you how much competition exists within each keyword/keyphrase, etc...Automated software that allows you to post multiple permutations to capture all the possible keyphrases you are attempting to seek out also helps dramatically, however, there is some discussion as to whether it is better to focus on one or two, top performing words...or loads of potential variables...

No reason given other than poor landing page quality.1/10.

The website is about creation information products and a keyword i use is "information products"

Keyword relevance is fine it's landing page quality that is not .No reason given by Google.

Quality Score is a variable used by Google,Yahoo! (called Quality Index), and MSN that can influence both the rank and cost per click (CPC) of ads.
To determine the order in which ads are listed, each ad has the following formula run against it: bid * Quality Score. Ads are then listed in descending order based on the result of that equation. The exact weight of Quality Score versus bid has not been revealed by any of the major search engines, and each company has stated that they reserve the right to continually adjust their ranking methodologies.
There are a number of factors that determine the Quality Score of a given ad. While each search engine has released directional information on the factors most important to them, presumably in an effort to guide their advertisers towards making better ads, none has revealed their formulas in detail. Below is a summary of what has been released.

The one big thing that stood out to me that is a big thing is that it's a single page. There are no links to any other page. I know that Google does not like to have the PPC lead to a single page. Normally they want to have a lot of relevancy and with a single page, there is not much there.

Add 5 or six links at the bottom linking to something that is relevant but not some other sales thing. Also, Google like to see a site map.

These 2 things I know deter from a sales page but Google likes these.

This is just my 2 cents though so do what you feel is best.
