not at all. I do this all the time.
I sometimes have my keyword 3 times in one url and it's rocking on the #1 spot on google.

A key word or set of key words must be in the url, the body several times in order to get the attention of the search engines.

Actually, your keyword does not Have to be in your main name URL to get Google to notice. That is sitename.com. - Although, if you can, it does work great to have your KW in your main URL.
However, if your Keyword is a MLM company name or any other product name often using that KW in your URL is not allowed and can get you shut down.
If that is the case, then it works just as well for rankings if you ensure your KW is in your page title . That is: sitename.com/keyword. Plus it definitely helps if it is in H1 tag and in the beginning and end of your text on the page.

It won't work as well.
Keyword: Dog Training
The best is if you can get your main keyword in your domain. No variants or anything like it.
www.dogtraining.com
However, if you cannot get the main keyword, use a variant. But keep it reasonable.

If you will be posting on your own website, make sure it's in the URL. I have tried this method for gooroo launches, and it does not work as well if the keyword is in your domain.

If I build a website entirely around the keyword about dog training, I will have Urls withe keyword in the domain, the category, and the title of the post.

Yes, you are right it is best to have the KW in your main url.
No arguing that.
What I was trying to say is if you cannot get the KW into the URL for copyright or other reasons, it can work to have it in your page title. In fact it can work just as well as having your KW in the URL, if you have good link building and SEO practices - esp in markets where your competition does not do much SEO.
I have outranked other sites that have the KW in their URL when I did not. Well, I have only tried it once. In general, most MLMers do not SEO optimize their sites.
That is not true with you Luke. You seem to have SEO wired. Glad to know you are doing so well on-line.

Re: Is it bad to mention your keyword twice in a URL?
Although you can put your KW in the title multiple times, you may want to consider that actual people are going to see your page title, not just Google.
The reason I mention this is because a lot of people may view seeing a title that looks like this: KeyWord|KeyWordVariation|Keyword etc. may see this as a scam website.
I personally would not recommend putting the KW too many times in the title, there are plenty of other places on your site that you can place those keywords without looking scammy.
I would place my focus on placing quality content on your webpage. Google searches for popular, original content, so I'd advise keeping your hat white.

this is very true
It's easy to build a website that easily ranks on google,
as for making any money... good luck.
Building a website, or writing an article, or a blog post that ranks on google
and converts high for you is like a fine balancing act.
If you write strictly for the user, you might get poor rankings.
You write solely for rankings, you get no sales.
Try and balance te two and keep them both in mind when writing
