PageRank .... wowwwwwww there is truly a misconception here ...PAGERANK ISN'T A JOKE...

The PageRank Algorithm has been updated by GOOGLE hence the more frequent PageRank updates

First 2011 PageRank (PR) Update

Time-frame: 31 January – 3 February

Second 2011 PageRank (PR) Update

Time-frame: 30 June – 3 July 2011

Third 2011 PageRank (PR) Update

Time-frame: 30 September – 3 October 2011

Fourth 2011 PageRank (PR) Update

Time-frame: 31 December – 3 January 2012

All these updates are major PR updates.

Now pagerank implies HOW VALUABLE GOOGLE DEEMS YOUR SITE... it is no longer Seo or Webmaster Bragging Rights ... this is indicative of authority and trust Google has developed with your SITE ... some will say High PageRank does nothing for Search Engine Placement ...

Well the truth is ... I tested this out ... took one of my client sites with a PR of 2 and another client site with a PR of 6 we created like content ... not duplicated but similar content with the same keyword frequency, density and near identical in concept and topic ... BOTH SITES RANKED ON GOOGLE ... higher pr site landed page 1 position 3 lower pr site landed page 3 position 4 ....

Those who misunderstand the value of PR or are disillusioned to think PR has no value does not belong in the industry...

PAGERANK has changed YES ... but its much less bragging rights now as the greenbar did mean BIG PAY DAYS for guys who wanted to FLIP SITES ... and make a good profit ...

PAGERANK is now built on a totally different set of indicators that tells us a much better story of a sites "trustworthiness"

It's not a joke but it is certainly over rated - I've got PR4 sites losing out to PR1 competition. and also the opposite. It is useful in persuading others of your significance when selling your SEO credentials though.

I thought Page was the name of the guy at Google who invented a system to determine a website's relevancy in the market place.
It's just a coincidence that his name was Page, so everyone thinks it has a different meaning to what Mr Page was trying to create maybe?

I know nothing about SEO, but I believed it's apparently something like the FaceBook Edge rank thingy they used to use(until a few days ago?) to determine how often you would receive postings from obscure people in your network.
I thought it meant market relevance for what users want...now, according to the searched for words and terms being typed in !

PageRank matters in terms of sites you want linking to your site. Don't measure your success or progress by your page rank. However, if you're looking to get high value links from "authoritative" sites, PR is a pretty good indicator of what Google thinks of a specific website.

Higher PR = higher authority = higher trust = great place to get a link.

Not a Joke, but definitely not something to spend a lot of time worrying about.

Do you think that Page rank and SEO strategies will be of as much importance in the next 5 years as it was 5 years ago?

By the time I get it...it will probably be obsolete anyways...

Page rank isn't everything and there is ways that you could fake it.

As many of us know that PR system is only obtained by Google, there is no other search engine which sorts the websites by assigning PR. It's all about how much Google trusts on a website, this can be judged by checking the PR of that Website. If your succeed to build backlink from a high PR website this simply impresses Google as it is more trusted source from Google's point of view.
