The reason why no marketer should dismiss this is because its targeting individuals that generate income from SEO tactics to get 1st page placement. Now the first page is changing, so combining the Algo change and Google's focus on local and mobile for the first page, Google is going to generate more money.

Google is a business first, and a search engine second. 67% of all searches are done looking for local results, so in order for them to stay on top, they must change and deliver what they think will cause people to continue to use. Combine with the purchase of Admob, the government requested some changes.

Note: these changes did not effect blogger.com or wordpress

I've also seen some well known marketers sharing videos reflecting their information was on page 1 and recently their ranking has been decreased, lowering it to lower page 2 placement.

Google is indexing Twitter and Facebook information so the attraction to use those system should increase.

I have to weigh in on the side of google as possibly the more valuable view of what the searcher really wants.

I like Nathan's comment as well that this change "Weeds out junk".

If you think about it an article directory has become a self posted backlink page and the content is not why it is there the back link is. That tactic creates backlinks or at least it used to until Google lowered the value because the content was not being used, searched, or read. If you have a valuable article and it gets syndicated it is being read and it will remain with a high rank.

I may be the only one that thinks google is doing the right thing but it is their search results and the clicks by REAL USERS that drives their business and they know what content is being read and what content is not.

You may not trust them, but they are here to stay so I perfer to think that their tactics are protecting the value of searching for content rather than penalizing particular marketers.

Hey Matt, I'm with you. I really loved the algorithm change personally. I saw a whopping increase in my own traffic because I work very hard to ensure that I create genuine unique content and never duplicate anything myself--can't control what others may grab from me and try to get indexed--but this algo change took care of a lot of the content scrapers and automated methods that generate duplicate content. They moved down and I moved up in the rankings.

The bottom line is this: Google wants unique quality content and if you give them that you will rank well with your site. Google doesn't target marketers...It targets spam and the methods used by some marketers can get caught up in that. Kerry

Glad to hear you think that way.

My expereince in face to face marketing proved to me that tricks and gimics always eventually come back to bite the one that uses them.

It is no different in Online marketing.

I think the best way to avoid a Google Slap is to just produce valuable content people want to read and you will rarely if ever be caught in the cross fire. In fact quality content rises as you just saw when the other items get pushed down.

I see you here in the forum a lot, I find your comments always have some quality perspective. If I can help you in any way let me know.

Shows promise - long are the days where article marketing proved an SEO tactic but think about it, it never was. I personally never did article marketing as I felt that a link given based on my content and not on my narcissistic belief that my content was awesome proved more valuable...

SEO'ers pimped backlinking and anchor text as the most affective way to first page dominance. JCpenny did it, and George W Bush was a victim of this tactic...GOOGLE BOMBING as it is referred to, put George W Bush in position 1 under the keyword "village idiot" , yup the work of democrats I tell ya....

Content farms like ezine-articles, and AMAZON all took hits...why because of duplicate content
Webmasters became furious when a higher PR site stole their material and reposted the same article to a better ranking.

I have always believed that in Marketing content or results are the key. In face to face marketing the trust and relationship is built on value not jibberish.

Why should it be different online.

I agree in all my marketing experience results come from delivering real content and real value.
