Wouldn't it be simpler just to type keywords in Google to find on which position site is listed?

If you're serious about tracking your SEO progress I'd recommend SEOmoz or Raven Tools. You can also get a free FireFox plugin called RankChecker that will check your rankings across Google, Yahoo, and Bing.

Typing keywords directly into Google is simpler, however it's also inaccurate not to mention time consuming.

Don't ever base your progress on typing keywords into Google manually. Location, search habits, and other factors can affect the results.

With advanced search option it wouldn't time consuming. But you have to clear cache and history of your web browser to check keywords actual position.

Due this reason I always check keywords position in Google.com, Google.co.uk, etc … Anyway, I admit that SEOmoz and Raven Tools are very useful and I often use them to check my keywords rankings.
