Proper backlinking techniques

Postby jon patrick on Sun Aug 21, 2011 3:32 pm

Honestly, this is intended for Contempo but I'll take any advise I can.
As you build a website and backlinks - what are the correct strategies?
I've heard set up 10 'feeder' websites at blogger, hubpages, etc. and link to your main site. Throw backlinks to those, giving you few but powerful links to your main site.
I've heard that every page (assuming the site is a wordpress blog) and post have a link at the end back to the main page, and you build backlinks to these internal pages/posts.
To ignore low PR sites, or forum posts, or forum profile links, or news comments as they add no value compared to a handful of PR5+
It's confusing, and I don't have a 'strategy'. It's relevant because I have a site I'm rather proud of. Not being an SEO professional I *think* it's pretty good for keyword in url, titles, etc. I'm getting more backlinks, but being CRUSHED by some crappy site in position #2 in Google with few backlinks. In fact, for the past week as I've added content and backlinks, my site has been slipping.
grrrr.

When I build a website and want it ranked fast,
there a re a few things I will do to make that happen.

After the website/blog post/article is written, I will use Fiverr
and find someone to post the link to all sorts of bookmarking sites.

I will also have a few Fiverr gigs to retweet and Digg the heck out of the URL.

I mean I have up to 200 retweets and diggs for one blog post.

After that I will use a couple gigs for PR5-9 backlinks. About 50.

Don't go for 4,000 backlinks because they are mostly garbage.

For some of those backlinks, I will get those bookmarked as well.

I will always backlink my backlinks and you should too.

Make sure you put your backlinks in a text file in this format:

Backlink1
backlink2
backlink3

You then want to take your text file with all of your backlinks
and send it through www.PingFarm.com to get them indexed.

Repeat this with other posts on this website so that it looks
like you have a lot of buzz going on around your website.

For one of my websites I have #2,#3,#4,#5,#6 spots on google. #5 and #6 are articles while the first three are 3 posts from the same website.

If you have some money, I also use winson backlinks as well if I have multiple sites to rank. These backlinks are mainly for clients because you can have up to 5 websites and I will use 4 URL's from clients and 1 for one of my websites.

Try that and if your On-Page SEO is good, and you have done great keyworkd research. You will easily rock it :D

thanks for the replies.
Also brings up the question of, in a wordpress blog, the proper/best permalinks format. right now I'm using %postname%/
Thoughts?

What will happen is as you submit your posts a PING will be sent to these update services and thus send the GOOGLE CRAWLER your way... make sure it's new and unique content...

To answer another question: The permalink structure should be Month and Name
http://www.xyz.com/2011/08/sample-post/ ... Why ?

Lets say you have created content with a specific title and then somewhere down the road you use that same title for another post...Using the Month & Name scheme you can do so without your title looking ugly

Using just post name would do this to your url "Bank-Of-America" and second post will look like "Bank-Of-America-1" not a good HMTL structure if you ask me ...

If we include the month your structure will look like this
http://www.xyz.com/2011/08/bank-of-america/
http://www.xyz.com/2011/09/bank-of-america/

You also may want to create a solid internal linking structure with your posts...Using SEO Smart Links plugin ... you can in fact have your targeted keyword automatically hyperlinked to your home page drawing stronger relevance. It's pretty straight forward on how to set up once installed...

Getting backlinks ahhhhh thats the story of every SEOers life... Now Comment spamming is stupid, but getting backlinks from HIGH pagerank pages and NOT SITES ... yes there is a difference guys ... Is where your backlinking efforts need to be focused on...

Below is a list to get backlinking started ... High Page Rank 4 obviously the Higher the PR the more authority the link has and the more important your site seems to GOOGLE

I personally use PR 7's and 6's for my clients but this is a good start

thanks man, that's a much more expansive ping list than I've been using.
One quick followup - what are your thoughts on backlinks to internal pages?
Oh, and I use SEO Smart Link already, but thanks, I just found it about 2 weeks ago.

Backlinks to internal pages are great as long as that internal page is linked back to your "home" page via anchortext...however I caution building PR for sub-pages ... you can do what we call PageRank Sculpting ... but try to focus most on your main page ... at least a 70/30 split

John you want to PM me your URL ... I can do a quick 10 minute analysis as to why the crap site is kicking your but ... make sure you include keyword you are attempting to rank for ... Lets kick the sites but within the next week I promise LOL... if your site is losing rank on Google it maybe due to content relevancy relationship and this is where SEO smartlinks comes in and also Add Post Footer plugin ... We can talk about this two plugins working in harmony...
