I am getting in desperate need for a captcha on my blog to control the useless spam.
THere are bunch listed - anyone have a suggestion for a good one.

Most people recommend Akismet but I believe it isn't free if you use it on a commercial website.

I'm using si-capcha and it seems to be okay. You can install it for free right from the WP plugins page. Just do a search there and it should come up.

As you said, there are a few to choose from but I can only talk about what I've tried.

Since CAPTCHAs can sometimes be a nuisance to use, I have been using Growmap Anti Spambot Plugin.
I haven't gotten any bad spam for a long time.
All the commenter has to do is check a box. Bots can't do that.

I also use Akismet.

Thank you, I ultimately used a captcha that makes the user do MATH! LOL!
I'd prefer the check box myself.
I'll check it out, that sounds just like what I need.

When you get a spam comment, There needs to be a few things.

Name: Prada Shoes
Email: xyz@spammer.com
URL: http://www.pradaspammerxshoes.com

Comment: Love your blog!

So I will change this to:

Name: John M.
Email: Curingthegolfslice@zyx.com <----- MUST CHANGE EMAIL
URL: http://www.BacklinkToArticleThatNeedsToBeRanked.com

I'll do this on my sites, and vary the keyword as well. Whenever I build a website, I just can't wait for spam comments to come in. In the URL I will put many things, an article backlink, socialbookmarkeing backlinks, a profile backlink, or some other type of backlink. Try and make sure it's a one way backlink.
