Your Content Sucks and Google Knows It

Postby Jason Davis on Wed Feb 08, 2012 4:56 pm

Hi All, brand new to the better networker and stoked to be on board. I wanted to drop in the PPC and SEO forum to contribute.

Raise your hand if you're looking to increase your website rank with Google?

Me Me I do I do - of course and that's what everyone says. I would like to take a couple moments and share some tips to increase your SERP's on your own without having to hire people or spends lots of money.

Since Google's major "panda" update last Oct - 2011 the search game has changed and I consider it to be better off.

You ready for the tip? What Google hasn't told you, and some of you may already know this, the social graph matters and I'm not talking about having a facebook page or advertising on facebook. I'm speaking about something completely unique and never required - until now.

Google will rank a website with less backlinks, less content, and less pr over the opposite for one key reason - social sharing.

This doesn't mean just a facebook like - this means that people across social networks including facebook are sharing your content with each other - they reply and re-share.

Why does this matter? Because every searcher is a customer of Google and Google would like to provide the best possible experience for their customers - just like you. In order to do this Google has taken the approach that if no one is sharing your content - it must suck - therefore we (Google) are not going to give your link the weight you think it deserves. We (Google) are going to give weight to someone who seems to have a very active social graph instead.

Bonus** there are numerous ways to achieve this but first and foremost ( and essential in the better networker ) is publish high quality content. It's okay to take snippets from other sources but you better add your two cents and provide links to those sources. Secondly be active with in your social community and offer this great content for free and make sure it rocks.

If I gave you a box of socks would you share them with your friends? No! But if I gave you a box of chocolates - heeeya party time. Just remember content is still king - backlinks still rule - but make sure your content is sociable.
