Great input folks. If I were looking at how to leverage YouTube as a source of traffic and leads, take heed of what is being said on here.
There are far too many MLM'ers that I've seen that have had their accounts suspended for trying to be to spammy on that site and have lost as much as years worth of effort on there.
I was just looking around at my "friends" list on that site and its like graveyard on there, with I would guess at least 1/3 of them having had their accounts banned, including a handful of "experts" at youtube marketing in our industry.
It IS a great source of traffic, and in fact is one of the largest search engines out there, and if used wisely will be so for years to come.

Re: Youtube accounts
So if I have a personal account and link to none of my websites and then I have a business account with a different email address for my marketing I should be ok?

Re: Youtube accounts
Jay,
You are probably going to be fine. The point is not to connect your accounts via email addresses or google accounts - yes, you can now log into youtube through your google account.
Do not intermingle your accounts and above all, make sure you have signed off one account before you log on to your other account. If you are providing good content you will probably avoid red flags.
There are many, many, people with multiple accounts and if you are not co mingling them you will be fine.
Tip.... Always keep copies of all your videos on your hard drive and upload to other video sites e.g. Viddler this way if you should ever get nixed from Youtube you still have copies of your videos.
If you do get banned, you can open a new account using different email and ip address, but DO NOT try to upload your old videos again or you will probably get banned again. Put your old videos on another video hosting site.
hope that helps,
jeff

Re: Youtube accounts
I know that Youtube banned a bunch of accounts awhile back, including Jonathan Budd's. What's funny is that Jonathan Budd admitted he was blasting lots of content on multiple accounts and essentially spamming Youtube, and he's joked about it in subsequent webinars instructing people not to do what he did. I personally think that the entire fear of multiple accounts on the same IP is a little misguided. Imagine a public, school, or home computer where more than one person uses it to upload videos. Very common. I think what happened is these people's videos got targeted, and Youtube used multiple angles, including IP addresses to determine their other accounts.
I would recommend that you keep the Youtube accounts to a minimum and just provide original content. Backup your videos and if your content gets pulled it gets pulled. Youtube is a wild animal sometimes.

Re: Youtube accounts
Hi Jon,
Using multiple IP addresses may be a little over cautious, but it is definitely not misguided.
The fact is, Youtube does track IP addresses and if for some reason you do get flagged, your account will probably be reviewed by a youtube cop. That person will decide your fate and if they see MLM it may get you banned even if you are doing nothing wrong.
If it does not appear that the multiple accounts are doing anything wrong you will probably pass the review w/o incident. The fact is, they won't warn you, they will simply eliminate your stuff.
Jonathan, who i spoke with shortly after the big youtube purge understood why it happened, but was able to generate mass quantities of traffic before the slap. At that time Youtube was looking the other way.
Jonathan as a true professional and mentor immediately cautioned followers to play by the rules.
As long as i use multiple accounts i will whenever possible change ip addresses. I am not worried because i do not spam and my accounts are in totally different industries.
If you use the same ip address for multiple accounts you will probably not get slapped if you play by the rules and keep them separate.
But..... You never know! It's Youtube's website and they make the rules.

Re: Youtube accounts
Having multiple YouTube accounts is only acceptable when you use each account for different purposes, one main account though should be the best idea. Never make the mistake of uploading the same video over multiple accounts, people have the misconception that you can have more views like that, instead optimized your videos for targeted keywords to rank your videos high on the search results.
