Youtube accounts

Postby Emma Starr on Thu Mar 25, 2010 1:08 pm

HI

Does Youtube 'mind' if you have multiple accounts? I know they had a big crack down a while back.

Thanks

Yes they mind and if you have several accounts it is advisable to log in to them on separate IP addresses.

It is a tough situation for people that need separate accounts for business or personal use. I have 3 accounts for 3 separate businesses. I am always careful to log out on one account and log in to the other account from a different ip address.

Don't risk getting banned and losing your stuff.

Hope that helps,

Jeff

No YouTube does not really want you to have multiple accounts. I have four but I am very carefull about loging in with them.

I do not think YouTube would delete someone's accounts if they only have 3 or 4 accounts from the same IP address. I have to feel that there are a lot of families that each person might have their own account. I don't think YouTube would not delete their accounts. But if you had the same video's on multiple accounts, that might be different if a person looked at them all. Just my opinion though.

I agree on all of the above,

The question of IP addresses is a difficult one but having multiple email accounts is advisable as well. I remember the crack down YouTube had last year and removed a multitude of my accounts. Not only that, but they also wiped out top 'guru's' accounts as well, Jonathan Budd being one of them.

I highly recommend the above suggestion because many of the pros affected by last year's slap all said the same thing: "I wish I hadn't used the same email with all of my accounts!"

Hope this helps...

Good points Steven,

Youtube will not slap you for multiple accounts unless it feels you are using them inappropriately. The problem is, they decide not you. If you get slapped and they are legitimate separate accounts (different members of the family) you must now go to youtube and try to get them to put you back up.

Since the big slap, Youtube has become more tolerant of multiple accounts if handled properly. I think the slap was their way of cleaning up the mess and sending a strong message to account spammers.

Youtube does track usage by IP addresses and that is why i try to change up when logging into my other accounts. I am just being extra careful.

I use separate ip addresses when i log in mainly because i will rate and comment on my other videos which in the first 48 hours can have a big effect on how youtube places your video in their search results for the keywords you are targeting.

That is why video optimization is so important and getting friends and family to rate and comment your videos is a strong key to getting better rankings. Is it cheating? Not really because your ultimate goal is to get ranked for your keywords and drive more viewers to your videos. Once you get the traffic, if the video sucks it really doesn't matter.

You should NEVER EVER use the same email address for multiple accounts. Wow! Talk about instant death!

I remember when Jonathan got slapped as well as numerous other big players. Thousands of videos disappeared overnight!

Be safe, make sure your multiple accounts are distinctly different and you can avoid getting slapped by youtube. I have 3 accounts and they are totally unrelated and have never had a problem.

Good luck

It is not recommendable to have multiple accounts in anything. And, if the need arises then you should consider doing it as others here have said, with a different email. In addition be very cautious, do not break any rules and do not defy common sense.

I have only one account on Youtube. I think you could possibly have two accounts, just do not post the same video. Maybe having an extra account to do what Jeff said rate (thumbs up now) an leave comments would be handy. If I had two accounts, I would not even post videos with one account. It would not be wise to post a video and immediately log in and give it a thumbs up and or comment.

Recently Youtube slapped more marketers, I noticed a lot of Marketer's Youtube accounts are now gone.

I think the best ways to avoid getting slapped it do not post the same video (even videos that have been "spun"), stay educational, and do not post any affiliate or company links in the descriptions. I think it is best to leave a link to your blog and have a capture on your blog.

One other thing that I thought about if you have a couple of different accounts...

When you are adding your link to your site, do not use the same domain name. THat is one of the things that I know that Jonathan did when he lost his account. He had every single one of his videos pointing to just one site. That is like a red flag.

So make sure that you are using different sites for each account and do not mix them together.

Hi everybody,

You are absolutely right Stephen. Never show Youtube that your separate accounts are somehow connected.
Each account should have its own unique purpose. My 3 accounts (soon to be 4) are totally different from each other and have different domain names that they point to.

Do not try to post the same video to different accounts. That is the fastest way to get banned. If you want to add one of your videos to another account. Put it in your playlist as a favorite.

My advice is to have only one account unless you have totally different businesses or reasons to open additional accounts. You can divide your account into playlists and separate personal videos from professional. Keeping fun personal videos in your account allows visitors to see the personal side of you.

Hayley ... I have my own servers and can change my IP address anytime I want. Many internet providers assign you with a static (it never changes) ip address and if you get banned you will have to request a new ip address if you have any hope of opening a new account.

If you have a dynamic ip address, your ip address changes every time you log on then just log off and back on.

Don't try to game Youtube they will catch you.

My Tip of the Day Guess what? You don't have to create a single video to have a valuable channel. Being that Youtube is a social media site you can turn your channel into a information center using other peoples videos.

People come to get valuable info and if you have playlists with great videos about certain topics you can generate a great following because you are providing a treasure trove of great videos.

Start looking at Youtube as more than a storage place for your videos and start interacting with like minded people by providing value even if they are not your videos.

I have multiple accounts as well and it is a pain trying to make sure your IP is different. I have never had a problem with Youtube but multiple Google Accounts like Adwords that is a different story for another day.
