10000 points... now what?

Postby Sandeep Nath on Sun Jan 31, 2010 1:39 pm

Hi everyone! I just noticed I crossed the 10000 point mark in whatever these BN points mean. Questions (esp to Jason & Co) / Comment points:

1. What value do these points serve?
2. Why aren't we using contribution to create excitement in the BN community?
3. What's the update on ABN?

The benefits of the points system will become more apparent and valuable in the coming weeks!

The question shouldn't be what value do these points serve but what value are you serving to get these points?

They're merely a small incentive to promote content contribution. Would you like a cookie for going over 10,000 points? I know I did when I crossed that line... :?

Yep. Obviously they were conceived for a reason. Can I help add to the ideas bank? As a brand specialist I/my team keeps promos on the roll.

Do share the currently level-of-brainstorm and let's play.

.

At the end of the day, if they do count for something in the coming weeks great.
But in my opinion your contribution should not be based on how many points you earn.

I'd be lying if I said I never look at the points ... I'm trying really hard to knock Mr. McNamera from his thrown - and he knows it!   (cheers mate!)

But really, the point system feeds that little egotistical side of those that have it, which I think is fine. There's nothing wrong with some friendly (professional) competition and recognition. Human nature is steeped in praise and feeling important and part of something.

But I would say ... don't let that become the focus of why you do what you do here.
Contribute for the sake of contributing. BE a leader and you'll reap the rewards of one in due time, with or without "points."

Getting points really takes out the competitive side of the members. It also signifies how much contribution thus this member gives. It is just like singing your favorite Popular Karaoke songs. It is an ego boost if you get much more higher score, don’t you think?

Lol Richard, I've been after Dean for the longest time too - I don't know if we'll ever catch him - I mean he's atop that throne good and high and he looks comfy as hell!

For instance... have I missed something?

PS: The "Community Rank" takes care of the perceived value-addition relative to the community Nate, Richard. I think the Contribution Rank can be used in better ways than just as a gauge of value one brings.

Some of us non points watchers have little competitions when we are trying to pass each other Sandeep ;)

Others of us just don't like seeing people at the top of the points table when in reality they have contributed little - they have got there by inviting their large lists to join, or by using article spinners, rather than active participation.

I am very new to this forum and saw this problem from the first minutes. I am not sure but some forums that are not even for earning any points are using reward systems that others can rate every post or something like that...

I rather get less points from others for my posts then get points for only typing something... and a question that wasn't answered directly in any given topic. Well, I am just trying to bring a point and not saying that there is a huge problem now. I am new and don't know much yet. It would be better if every post will bring a value to the forum especially on the topics that are with "???" and not just a wisdom sharing...

Forgive me if I am mistaking...
