I really like Hostgator. I find their control panel use to use and the one time I needed support I got an answer really quickly. No complaints here.

I've heard good things about Hostgator, and they are very reasonably priced.

I use another service because it's run by a friend whose focus is on Wordpress blogs and this suits my needs.

Howdy all,

I run my own hosting biz. But, I am more for the person that can't figure out or doesn't have the time to figure out all the bells and whistles.

If I were to choose between HG or DH, I would pick HG. I have worked with people on both of these hosts and quite a few others. HG seems to have better servers and is a bit faster than DH.

HG also used Cpanel for their control panel which is a FANTASTIC app. (it's what I use) whereas, DH doesn't.

HG also provides the same bundles of software that I and many others do. You will get enough software to make you go CRAZY! :D But, it will keep you occupied. ;)

Most of these hosts are what are referred to as 'Budget' hosts. They basically market to the masses. And, they end up overselling their product. It's a lot like overbooking on an airline. If you don't need to move a lot of information to a lot of people at the same time that the hundreds of others on their server are trying to, then you will be ok. However, if you try at the same time, your site will be a bit slower for the customer.

I use and recommend Dreamhost. I've been with them since 2005 (after going through more webhosts than I can count). I've hosted static sites, dynamic sites and Wordpress blogs with them. Their hosting plans are great value for money, and they often have fantastic deals on. Your disk space and bandwidth grow as time goes on.

Their support has been great in all cases except one (he wasn't bad, just not helpful), and the thing is that you get to give feedback and rate all of the support people. The one who wasn't up to scratch... well, I've never heard from him again, so I don't know exactly what happened, but I do think Dreamhost listens to it's customers.

Dreamhost has their own custom panel. I find it very easy to use and navigate and it provides access to do just about everything you need to do - even if you are a computer geek like me. Their WebFTP program I find much easier and quicker to use than the cpanel alternative. Over the years they have made improvements to the navigation panel, by contrast cpanel doesn't seem to change or improve much, if at all. Having studied and done a bit of work in the Web Usability realm I can say that with cpanel there definitely is room for improvement.

Dreamhost upgrades their servers (this is not to imply that Hostgator doesn't, I really don't know if they do or not). My sites are currently on a server that due to be upgraded, and I was given the option to volunteer to be one of the 'early upgradees' in exchange for a 'bribe' of unlimited disk space and bandwidth. Already I had so much because I've been with them for so long and my allotment grows weekly that I've never had to worry about either space or bandwidth, but I took the offer anyway :-)

Some more things you get at Dreamhost:
* you have the ability to make a complete backup of all your sites once a month
* space on a special 'backup' server where you can backup whatever you want (as long as it's legal). You get 50GB free and then they charge a pittance (10 cents / GB a month) for extra disk space. It's a really good deal.
Wordpress Installation Services
I can help with installing Wordpress, theme customization and SEO. Quick and professional service at good rates.

Are those free services?? Go Daddy is the largest I think; But Blue Host is inexpensive , and boasts, Tera bit computers. Both have great customer support.

I'd go with Lunarpages, they have unmatched support, or HostGator

Great reviews! I always hear good things about Host Gator, my question is has anyone heard, used or recommend HostICan.com?

I was thinking about using them but Id like to hear what the community has to say. Your help is appreciated.

Alex,

I was in your shoes just a week or two weeks ago, considering which hosting I would sign up. I decided go with HostGator based on good review across internet. If you take time and look for HostGator coupon, you could find one that you just pay only 1 cents for 45 days. No long term contract, that would give you access to HostGator and experiment with them. However, I'm computer programming illiterate, don't know how to upload website, etc, HostGator's support was wonderful, they had lot of patience and assisted me upload the website.

I recommend you to try HostGator with the coupon to trail test their hosting service, if at the end of 45 days you can either continue or not, the regular monthly is approximately little under 10 dollars a month. However, one thing, before you upload your website with the hosting service, make sure you have good autoresponder to begin. Hope you find what you are loooking for. Good Luck.... ;)
