Richard, that was awesome.
I am with you.
What I'm doing is pointing out the truth behind the whole "hierarchy of values" that lots of
people love to gush about.
They want to jump to the top of the pyramid and "make a difference" without going through
the other steps first.
I would submit to you that most of the "feel-good", "Me Too!" marketers out there don't really get
it yet. I don't think anyone can understand the type of vision we're talking about without going through
the other steps of the hierarchy first.
So when you first get a new team member, I am suggesting you teach them how to make a little extra
cabbage first. Once they see that it's possible, they can work on growing it. Along the way, they will discover
that their dreams weren't really big enough in the beginning, and they will understand the true power of a dream-driven mission. Only then will they begin to truly understand the difference they can make.

Re: Do You REALLY Have A Business Mindset?
Once again, Adam, I am in complete agreement with you and your post.
We just say things differently.
Your views are so well thought out and articulated that I don't believe the majority of people
are on the same page.
Of course you don't do something solely for money.
If you did, than any action taken for a profit, regardless of the cost, (money, emotional, spiritual, whatever)
would be good and right.
I think that's what Richard Branson is talking about in the quote.
Notice that he didn't say he would start a business with the purpose to NOT make money, no matter how much good it would do. He starts charities for that.
The only point I'm trying to make is that you're doing whatever you're doing to provide for your family's needs first. Helping other people is secondary.
Everyone wants to be a good person. (at least normal ones)
Honest, hardworking, the whole bit.
They also need a sense of accomplishment and the rewards that come with those virtues.
When we're talking about good business practices, the scorecard and the reward are the same.
The balance on your bank statement.

Re: Do You REALLY Have A Business Mindset?
Richard, that is one Kick-Ass post!
You have summed it up excellently, & I must admit, you've very neatly covered what I & others have been missing.
But...you have soooo succeeded in stimulating my thinking, thank you for that wake-up call. Excellent timing what with this being the start of the next decade & all that!
I've got a feeling that after your post on this subject, it's pretty well gonna be "done & dusted"!
Awesome!

Dean, that is EXACTLY what I meant.
First you start a business to make money for your basic needs. You have to replace your job income. At this point money is the only thing that matters. To take care of your family.
Then, as you grow, you begin to help more people realize the dream of being financially free.
As you expand your area of influence your dreams naturally grow. And you believe even bigger things are possible.
That's when you can start to see the world the way people like Branson do.
But it's something you've got to learn on your own.
Nobody can really show it to you until you are capable of seeing it.
If you are recruiting people for your business, you have to show your prospects something that they believe is possible. They don't think they can make a huge difference in the world, and they probably don't even want to.
If you start with the whole vision thing with someone who's never even looked past a job before, they won't get it.
It takes time to understand the concepts you've laid out in your post.
Money is nothing.
Just a means to an end. (and since fiat currencies are worthless anyway, our money really is worthless)
I'm very happy with the way this thread has turned out.
Even though I'm sure that many people have huge dreams of world-changing accomplishments, I gotta believe that there are far more that just want to put their kids in the best college they can, and make sure they're not picking up cans on the side of the road in retirement.

Yes I agree on this point a lot, especially on what you mentioned regarding family. And very true, we say things differently but mean the same thing.
I also agree on what you mentioned about cabbage. I think if I am right in understanding what you're saying about that part is in a way what I do.
Let's say I got a new team member. Then the first thing I wanna help him or her, is make some cash. Get customers. Sign up prospects and have cash. So they see the results.
I find, this really gets the person excited. I actually figured this out by accident when my sponsor and uplibne left. So, I went and made money and this got me buzzing and thinking bigger and...act more.
So I thought that's what I do with team and new people who come in sraight away. Because they see how to do it, then they see check, it's reality, it can be touched, it's money they earned and they've seen how it works for them.
And if they want more, then do more, master it, become proficient at it.
If that's what you mean about the cabbage part, I agree totally. It works wonders. It can even get them to believe more on their reason why and think..
"Damn! I just made $50! I CAN DO IT! Blimey."
And then they usually ask..
"OK, how do I make more consistently?"
And that's why I get a big grin on my face. They are hooked.
Great topic and debate. Hope it keeps going as I like reading everyone's thoughts.

This thread is just awesome Dave! That's why I love logging on to this forum once a week. There's just no telling when someone's gonna share priceless information.
What's funny though... it's the same people who give feedback and talk about the subject more. And these are the people who's been successful for quite some time now.
Where are the others? What are your thoughts?
I'm gonna check out who Richard Branson is. If he has written a book, then perhaps I'll have to start visiting bookstores again.
By the way...
Happy New Year to you All!
Cheers!
