Sorry for venting here, but I actually invite you to join me
A little peeved today. A healthy kind of peeved:
Earlier this week I learned that groxx.com got shut down. At present there is a notice on their site cursing the spammers. The author estimates that 90% of their traffic was spam, and they just couldn’t handle it.
Hence throwing in the towel. The only thing still working on their homepage is AdSense.
In the past hour, I got hit with a dozen or so Twitter 'followers'. Folks that follow on average 44 thousand people with roughly the same number of followers. And they all have 5 tweets or less.
I spend an average of 10 minutes a day sifting through spam comments on my blog. Folks that are hell bent on leaving links on the blog even though WP tags them with nofollow, or blocks posts with more than one link.
And then I come to BN to see 36 instances of the same “would you agree that lead gen is most important in your biz?” post!
>:(
Then there is Nestle with their Facebook fiasco, shaking their fist at all that dare to have a little fun with their logo.
On a social network!?!? C’mon!
Groxx’ home page author blames us, the regular users, for buying crap from spammers. Says that’s why spam continues?!?!
Dude, spam continues because people are too f#$%g lazy to do anything but spam!
They are too damn stupid to understand that spam doesn’t work, too lazy to do anything about contributing to the world, and too many to deal with!
ENOUGH!
There. I popped an aneurysm.

Re: Enough!!!
I'm reminded of the well-known saying that goes something like this...
"God grant me the ability to change the things I can,
The serenity to accept the the things I cannot,
And the wisdom to know the difference!"
Can we ever change spammers?
Do we have to accept them for what they are?
How do we get on with our lives, when we are obliged to co-habitate with them?
All advice is welcome!

It's like tv and the radio to a certain extent. Change the channel.
Part of my daily routine is creating filters in my gmail accounts to send crap to the trash can. A necessary evil I'm afraid.

Re: Enough!!!
Spam is just one part of the ugly part of the internet. We just must live with it.
I agree that spam wastes lots of time. But we are not totally innocent too.
We need to be careful with the way and where we disclose our contact details and the kind of advertising methods we use. Untrusted sources, even if they promise to turn our businesses around, are very good sources to attract spam. Remember that there are people whose business is to sell contact details.
It is advisable to have a set of email addresses to use as and when the situation demands.Where you are not comfortable, use a specific email address. That way, you can ignore the address if you realize that you are being spammed.

Completely agree. Unfortunately for the real network marketers, People thinking about actually working for home click on those and give up before they even really get into a legitimate business. So sad!

Re: Enough!!!
I totally understand the frustration, with all that nonsense cluttering up the Net, it is hard to find real marketing being done. Where has "common sense" gone? When has spamming ever worked? Yet you will see so called "gurus" teaching a variation of spamming no matter where you go on the Net. And if you take note of the names, you will see some of the same names again and again, jumping from one scam to the next. Haven't they heard of this saying? "Doing the same thing over and again expecting different results, is a sign of insanity!"
You want to tell them - "Do the research, then follow real marketing methods!" Though I have not had any listen yet.

Hey guys,
I'm just gonna throw this out there and realize some people may not understand it and/or completely hate me for saying it, but here it is (take it for what it's worth) ...
Spammers do what they do and it will continue for one reason and one reason only:
It Is Immensely Profitable.
And also understand this - It's Not About Lazy People.
The big players have systems and marketing strategies so advanced and sophisticated it would make your head spin. A "nerve center?" ... Ha! That's childs play compared to what these multilillion dollar marketers are doing.
I know, I know ... By no means am I condoning it; not in the least bit.
I fu#%ing hate it as much as you do, maybe even more. Believe me, I despise the practice.
But I've studied it, analyzed it, dissected it ... and I know for a fact, that the pro spammers make huge money doing it.
Now what I won't do of course is turn this into a tutorial on how to spam profitably.
So although I'm sympathetic and totally feel ya'll, understand ...
It is an underground industry unto itself and It Will Never Stop.
Now you know.
Go about your business and just take it for what it is and get on with the important stuff in life.
PS: Don't go there if you're thinking about it!
It's slimy as hell and not what being a Better Networker is about.
Rise above and do the right thing!

That is actually called the" Serenity Prayer"!
A fine use of it here and a blessing if you practice it!

Re: Enough!!!
Very interesting thread.
Enlightening look on the inside by our resident expert Bravo.
Which once again reminds me- sweet is the sleep of the one serving, and there is no softer pillow than a clean conscience.
At the end of the day, we have to be true to ourselves and the standards that we have chosen to live by.
We all make our choices, and we all have to live with them. I am proud to throw my hat in with the BN community, who do it right! At the end of the day, the only person's actions we can control are our own.
Be a victor - not a victim- the day goes much smoother- it's a choice you alone have the power to make. I used to come here and complain- and Got Bravo'd ( and humbled) - and reminded that these kinds of people will always exist, just go out there and surpass them, get busy and "git R dun right" - thank you Richard, I have learned so much in the past year, and you have helped me immensely.
Each and every one of you are amazing.
Peace, over and out

Richard is right on here with his assertion about spam and profits in the internet marketing world.
I would challenge people's assertions of what they consider the "right way to do things" is here and what is "ethical"
As many professional internet marketers see it, one person's spam is another person's
- Search Engine Optimization Strategy
- Social Media Marketing Strategy
- Article Marketing Strategy
- Email marketing strategy
I really had to re-think this whole concept when I got a an email message (from an opt-in subscriber) that my email message I had sent out to my list was "spam" in his mind.
I never spam!!! Or so at least I thought in my own mind.
Think of it like this.
Some of the biggest earners in the home business or network marketing industry at least got their start as what many non-marketers consider professional spammers.
Here are a couple examples:
- What about all the article marketing blasters that many love here?
....Google would and does consider those search engine spam.
- Youtube blaster, MySpace friend adders?
Those sites consider those spamming tools, but have been sold as "marketing tools" by some of the biggest "systems" in the network marketing industry. Why do you think those sites as for a "captcha" after you add a certain number of friends?
- Posting comments and welcome messages on people's social media profiles or facebook groups or fan pages?
Many consider that spam.....I know I do.
- Syndicating your "tribe" on social media sites?
I know alot of people who hate it and consider it spamming social media sites.
- Leaving repeated comments on blogs like Jasonbetter.com in attempt to suck away the traffic from that site?
Many do consider that blog commenting spam...
I've even seen $1000 courses in the network marketing industry that were really little more than techniques on how to spam video hosting sites like YouTube.com
Even some of the courses we all know and love tech "spam" techniques.
So really, I reject the notion that it's about being lazy or it's "not the right way" of doing things.
Spam really is how the recipient views it.
It's just a fact that many very profitable marketing techniques are quite simply......spam.... Not a popular opinion, but the truth.
