Great definition of branding..

Postby Tomas Kuracina on Tue Jan 27, 2009 1:31 pm

Hello, I just wanna share this with you because I think it's really fitting and also fun.
I have read it in a book recently. It says that everyone is a brand manager. Branding is defined this way. If I took six people, 3 of your co-workers and 3 of your friends, locked them in one room, tie them together, inject them with truth serum and said: "Tell me something about [Your Name]", first 3 or 4 sentences would be their definition of your brand, how they are considering you. Everything you say or do, has an impact on how people are looking at you. That is your brand.

Now the question is: can you predict what they'll say?

The truth is those that are successful in this business can predict their own 'brand name.'

Having just finished an actual branding class- 4 two hour online courses with homework, I assure you branding is more than a motto or an initial reaction to what people think. :D

Branding is the perception to how everyone views your company- all experiences- from start to finish.

For example, I uncovered what my differentiators are from the competitors. As an online promotional products company I compete with catalog senders & order takers. As where we are a PERSONABLE online company. And it goes throughout the company & does not limit itself to the product. As we build our team of people the personable part of our training and support is the same as the services we offer clients- reliable, timely & efficient.

Leaning what your values are will help you uncover what your BRAND is. It not a motto or slogan. It's not the cute logo that goes with your phone number. I thought prior to this course my brand was: "Essential Products, exceptional service, on time guaranteed." I was close, but it is much more than that.

Having been in business for 17+ years it was a big awakening to uncover where I fell short on my brand promise. After completion my brand promise is: We promise a personable experience to support and enhance business, sharing knowledge in a timely & efficient manner.

If you want to look at a real branding class I highly recommend The Brand Ascension Group http://www.1automationwiz.com/app/?af=931840 They offer a four week ONLINE branding procedure class that is truly unique & well worth the money! At least get on their newsletter list. :P

Thomas,

That is a good definition.

Another way to brand yourself is stay within a theme. For example, my birthday is on Valentine's Day. I use hearts and pink on my blog.

I had someone message me in facebook stating that they remember seeing my blog the other day. Said I had a lot of pink. I told them, but you remembered me because of my theme, right? Their reply - yes, you are right.

I have had more complements on my theme, I think I found my brand.
