What got me started in my primary business?

Logic.

While I was sitting in a Denny's doing paperwork, a guy walked up and asked me if the car outside with the "Affordable Health Insurance" sign on it was mine.

When I said yes, he said, "Well, I know you're busy, but when you get a chance, would you mind taking a look at my website?", and he handed me his business card with the web address on it.

Later, I visited his website, and I was immediately struck by the potential of the opportunity.

As a Licensed Insurance agent, I am required to take a certain amount of state-mandated Continuing Education to keep my license up to date, and here was a Continuing Education company based on referral-marketing!

It was a perfect combination of opportunity, and a state-mandated product which professionals are required to purchase in order to stay in business. No selling required, they have to buy it, so why not get it from me!

I immediately could think of at least 200 people in my own company that needed Continuing Education for their licenses, and through networking groups, I knew many more people in industries like Real Estate and Mortgage that also were required to take Continuing Education.

After I got signed up as a Business Partner, I had a dozen customers before the end of the day, and the rest, as they say, is history.

As a side note, you'll notice the different types of marketing that are mentioned in this little snippet.

It started with a car sign, then a personal introduction, a business card, a website and old-fashioned face-to-face networking (which is still my primary source of exposure).

Oh, and since I wrote this on here, I'll have to include posting on forums also.... ;)
Have a GREAT day,
Warren

What got me started in my business?
I had a health issue and I was wondering how I can help my doctor help me to address it.
I was walking down the hallway one day and I overheard some ladies talking about a new health product. One explained that she had a health issue and it improved her health. Her hair was growing back too.
I intervened in the conversation and asked for some more information. The lady handed me her business card. I should call her in a few days. I checked the information on the website.
I was impressed with all the information. It showed where the owner's wife was ill. The product cleared the illness and she became better from it. Then the product became mass produced over 26 years and it has helped thousands of people. It started out as a medical prescription by a doctor and his research.
I was very impressed. Maybe this could help me in my health issues.
I called her a few days later, set up an appointment. I went to a meeting and joined that night!
The rest is history. My health is much better as documented by my doctor. This product has changed my life and I will promote it to help others to change their lives as well!

I guess what we are seeing here is still all to do with the classic person to person, say "old school" ways of entering in a business.
Most people who have been in Network Marketing for a while, I guess, came to it through "live contact" with another person, not through the internet. (Correct me though if I am wrong here.)

What I would like to know, how many people have joined a (primary) opportunity, just through the internet?
(I know I did, after finding a great coach and luckily I am able to duplicate my coach's and my own efforts, partly because of a free recruiting tool I use.)
There are 2 kinds of people in the world; those that fail at MLM and those that get the right tools and skills and succeed.

I did through the internet, it was initially by testimonials of successful individuals who were also in my online marketing program. Of course due diligence still applies and it needs to make sense and be a good "fit" for me. Having had previous experience and belief in the individuals on other products, I was more inclined learn more about my present opportunity. I have usually always looked at opportunities presented to me if the presenter was someone I would respect as a leader whether or not I would take the opportunity depends on present involvement or the opportunity itself.

Well, the very first time I was sponsored in this industry was trying a sample of a product that freaking knocked my socks off. Then the light bulbs went off in my head and I realized I could change people's lives with this product.

Then....reality sank in and I realized I wanted to build my business online and people join teams not join because you have a good product. That's when I followed my mentor to his mentor and we joined forces. I realized the value in being a part of his team and that is how I was sponsored the second time.

It was far complicated for me. In short I have a well know coach who did an event in Dallas. The guy was the #1 guy with the company at the time. I was in his down line. Well their was trouble with the company and everyone left. I was face book friends with this guy and we started chatting back and forth. He sent me his squeeze page and since I do allot of marketing online I was impressed. So I would say that face book and because I knew the guy was very successful is why I chose to be with the company. For the normal person they are introduced either from a meeting or one on one meeting. That is how most companies market their business.

My best friend (a realtor) told me about a client he had that was making tons of money in a new company. My friend didn't join, but I did... I didn't stay with that company, but have ignited a passion for MLM since though...

To all future sponsors, Never Pressure Your Prospects. I was recently speaking to a marketer, an MLM'er. Our first conversation was just about getting to know each other. She did pitch her opportunity to me however I was not interested. We spoke again about a week later just about social media, exchanging ideas, etc. Over this past weekend, she calls me and leaves me a 4 minute message. She was asking me to join her opportunity over a voicemail, which is rediculous. She wanted me to buy in to her opportunity to save my spot because big players were coming in. Now the first thought that went through my mind was this, if I sign up with her, is this the method of recruiting I'm going to use to find players? My next thought was that I do not want to work with anyone who uses such desperate techniques. I do want to make money in network marketing however I want to make money in an opportunity where this type of hype does not exist. I had a lot of respect for this person, up until this voicemail. I have too much experience in this industry of network marketing to fall for such a trap. If this person thought I was going to join her opportunity with that sort of recruitment method, she obviously must be mistaking me for a fool.

When recruiting anyone into your business, always show respect. Never rush anyone into a decision they are not ready to make.
