...you first start network marketing and people want to see you "make it" first! From one point it is understandable, but that shows that individual person is a follower...why can't they just see the potential in the opportunity?!? Doesn't it make more sense to grow with me instead of after me? Now you're playing catch up...but by the time these "i told you so" people join your organization, you'll make more money in bonuses (at least in my company) per person as they come in.
I just wanted to get this off my chest...Im not having this problem, but I remember this and hear it all the time from people when they first join and since this is the "sound off" section...this is where I could finally let this out lol

Good point. I have been there and done that. Do you want to know how to avoid that scenario?
When we join a company, we talk too much. We should SHOW our friends how our company can solve their problems. We are a "solution-oriented" business. Use your tools. Invite your friends to a "live conference call" if your company has them on a regular basis. Or send them a link to your website. Commit them to taking a look at it and giving you their opinion. FOLLOW UP with them. Ask them what they liked about what they saw or heard. If you ask them to do this with a sincere heart without trying to sell them on your company or product, most of them will be happy to help you. Everyone wants to know that their opinion matters to the people that they love the most.
If you haven't done so already, check out Dani Johnsons' training site. Just google her name, you should be able to get to her information that way.
Now, back to your subject. I hate it when people say that they are interested in developing a relationship with me, only to SPAM their links or disappear when I tell them that I am not interested in their business or opportunity.
Good luck.

Chris,
Unfortunately this happens all the time. It bothers me as well.
I don't like it when people send me a friends request and I send them a nice 'nice-to-meet-you note' and they don't respond back to me. (Mind you, that's the only thing I send. No links to my opportunity or anything like that. I don't roll that way. I truly want to build relationships first) It bugs the dickens out of me, when I never hear back from them again. It's like having "Cyber B.O." or something. Hello! Why did you want to be friends with me in the first place???

Good points everyone! Thanks for letting me vent lol
When I first joined I, probably like many, didn't understand how harmful this is...and time consuming. Im one of those people where I need good reasons not to do something...not just because Im new. So I did this and learned from the results that this isnt the way to go.
It wasn't until I got some of Tod Falcone's training that I realized that it wasn't just about using the tools (website, live calls, etc) but it was about time as well. If you spend 20-30 with every prospect because you'r trying to give them the presentation you are going to talk to less people in a day. But if you pique their interest (spend about 3-5 min) on the phone and send them a DVD or to a website, you'll be able to talk to more prospects =)

I like your article. I am in the opposite direction. I have people who don't want you to succeed. I meet people who don't want to do as you do, and don't want you to do it either. Those are the negative people that surrounds everybody. On one of my jobs, I volunteered to work at something. Everybody else were asked and they turned the opportunity down. They get mad because the opportunity turns into extra pay for the worker. I really hate it when they get mad at something they did not want to be a part of. In the meantime, I go it alone and learn as much as I can by myself. I took the extra steps to succeed and advance myself and leave the naysayers behind waiting for them to say, 'I told you so" stories.

I used to hate it when something happens beyond my control. I don't anymore. What happens, happens. It don't bother me anymore, either. I've learned to relax and don't sweat the small stuff. Everything is small stuff. People will say what they want to say. I seem to not listen anymore. They are the naysayers, onlookers and negative people who would put you down no matter what you do. I am better off without them. If you ask me about my products, I will honestly give you my best answer. It is up to that person to decide to take me up on it. You can not motivate everybody and can't lead everybody else. So if they get on the train or not, it's rolling!

Good point...don't sweat the small stuff. It is impossible to try and motivate someone who has NO motivation in the first place...not even a little bit. There are people out there that the only motivation they have is to go to their JOB, get off and plop their butt on the couch with a cold beer and watch TV. Most of these types will never do anything with their life and just generally be unhappy, quarrel about everything, not get anywhere and depend on the $1200-$1300 month Social Security check to get them by. I say this because a lot of them have no retirement of any kind. I don't know about other people on here but that scares the freaking hell out of me...I don't want to live my life that way!

You have a good point too, Don. I gave away our television because I saw what being a couch potato was like. I got sick among other things when you stop being active. We moved across town and found a trail park and go walking and to just getting out of the house. I am trying this new school with online marketing. It keeps me inside on such a beautiful day many times, so it better pay off somewhere. While we are here, we are learning together. So I don't hate it when... anymore.

Great subject post!
The thing about friends and family is simple.. do not talk to them.
This industry has really changed tremendously over the last 6 years but the one thing that I've seen stay constant is that your upline will first have you start off reaching out to your F & F.
There is nothing wrong with this if A.) you approach them about your product ONLY if you feel they will truly benefit B.) You do not try to sell them on the opportunity.
What most people who get started in a business don't realize is that this is a REAL business!!! You have to treat it like one.. if you are not using your marketing to generate leads of people coming to you with an interest in what you have to offer then you will ALWAYS talk to people who want to hold off.. or those just are not SERIOUS about changing their financial situation.
And you can not start a business by just recruiting.. you have to get your business center in profit first (that only happens through the retail of your product or service), you can not expect to teach someone to succeed if you have not yourself.
So what I would suggest if you are hearing those type of excuses, think about who you are talking to and figure out a way to get people calling you with an interest in what you have to offer..
Or pay a professional do sell for you
!
Great Success to you all!

Re: I hate it when...
Aeshea,
I really dislike that response too. It makes me laugh but then again I understand it. Normally people say this when their not seeing the opportunity as something you really can profit from. That's the major issue that hold people back. It's mostly people that's close to you. I've learned that you have to show them how, each step of the way of producing the income.
Look at it this way. People line up and send in resumes to well known companies, wanting to work with them because of their reputation. They feel honored and special to work there. But when it comes down to most MLM companies the media has told the public that its a scam, a pyramid, a way for only a few people to make money. So they hesitate to get involved.
You have to show them value. Clothing designers do and excellent job at doing this. They position their selves in front of the eyes that want to pay more. Marketers have to position their selves in front of the eyes looking to start a business.
