And at 22 was research faculty at the Brown Medical School with published, peer reviewed articles [the most recent reference to which was in 2008!]. Some may construe that to have guru attributes. LOL! As I look back, I have to say that in both instances, I had on the order of 10,000 hours in each field [+/- 1000], even though I was just a young kid in age. The depth and breadth increased, of course, over the years.

Thanks!
My intent in posting that was to point out that even if somebody is looked upon a "guru" [for lack of a better term] they probably put in their time to gain the status even if they were very young in age. And, I do believe that the figure is on the order of the 10K hours. In fact, when I saw Gladwell's 10,000 suggestion I breathed a sigh of relief: "That's what has taken me so long . . ." LOL!
BTW, 10,000 hours is not that much time if one is serious. If one only spends 5 hours/day every day, it is only 5.5+/- years - not that long to become a master of your passion.

Nice one
That's very encouraging for all to hear/see.

There is a saying that:
At some point in your life you must decide whether you want to impress people or influence people.
You can impress people from a distance, but you must get close to influence them, and when you do that, they will be able to see your flaws. That’s okay. The most essential quality for leadership is not perfection but credibility. People must be able to trust you, or they won’t follow you.

Nice distinction, thanks.
