Seriosuly a minute - asd 123 wtf (or whatever the spambot calls itself) has gotten me reaaaalllly irritated.

Can we have some nice random captcha stuff in place & also some 5+8=13 remedial math as well to beat the spambot over the head with lots of real handbags.

It's a real micky-take that "it" has managed to post literally 250+ posts over EVERY SINGLE flippin' (not the word in my head) sub-forum in the last 24 hours.

The spambot was obviously looking for a forum with lots of members & then set-to to do spread its sh**.

You can see I'm pretty annoyed about it.

Even more so, when I generally make it a policy *not* to sound off.

But I had to get this pile of replica handbags off my keyboard. I just couldn't type.

The thing is - they didn't spend hours & hours - probably just a few seconds...using an automated spambot to spew out the same links all over the forum.

...and for the sole reason that even if 0.1% of the real people on this forum (no hands-up required if you did ), that's potentially enough clicks to get some commission.

& they can roll out the spambot across thousands of forums like BN.

THE best way to limit the amount of damage that can be done is by having a captcha code that randomly appears after you've posted more than about 10 posts in a short amount of time....much like how Facebook operates.

So, we were the losers (for a while at least ).

Next time we see it happen, just check the triangle with the exclamation mark to report it as inappropriate...only takes a few peeps to flag up the user & they'll get bumped off pretty quick.

Hi Mike,

It looks like some of the tech-wizards/forum admins have already wiped their profile...I'll dig around on the forum in case I'm wrong & report back on this thread.

The spambot was active from around 2 July onwards & made >350 posts over the complete forum. I know some forums ('fora'??) have compulsory captcha code that you have to type if the system detects rapid/high posting from an individual user as a way to trip up such spambots.

Not sure how that would with the BN forum setup though, as I've only ever hacked around with phpBB Forum & these days I'm focused on marketing rather than being a pure tech-head

Dez, unfortunately it doesn't at the moment. We do see the "warning sign !" requests, but not as quickly as the tickets. Submitting a support ticket request will ensure it gets to us as fast as possible. Thanks.
