Marine Recon - No Man's Land, Afghanistan

Marine Recon - No Man's Land, Afghanistan

This post isn't pretty. Written by a marine recon sergeant somewhere in the mountains bordering Afghanistan and Pakistan, it's a real-life view of life on the
ground for our warriors restoring order to the lawless border area.

These are the men who will ultimately make my job obsolete. As they secure the border, high explosives will not be able to reach the Taliban in Afghanistan. And someday, an Afghan man will live his life with no fear that his family will be held hostage under threat of death until he plants a bomb to kill people he doesn't know for a cause he doesn't support.

This story will not be told on CNN, MSNBC or any of the other "news" programs that you're familiar with. They don't have the stones to see the truth.

So here, in the words of a warrior that takes the fight to the enemy every day, is a little slice of reality from Afghanistan.

Hang on to your hat, Dorothy, cuz Kansas is goin' bye-bye.

Hey Dave,

I woke up from my warm bed, brewed a fresh cup of coffee and sat down to work. I saw your posting and read the article and it makes me realize that these brave men and women volunteered to live in the harshest conditions, for little pay, away from their loved ones so that i can wake up in that warm bed and brew my fresh coffee.

It also reminds of how ironic it is that these brave men and women do what they to to preserve freedom to the very same Liberal Media that does not support them. Sad but true!

Hey everybody, when was the last time you looked a soldier in the eyes and thanked him/her for their service?

God Bless Everyone of them!! and thanks for sharing!

Yeah, I know what you mean. The unit I was supporting at my last station is 30 days
out from going home. I saw a few of them here. They're getting some maintenance done
and picking up some parts before heading back to the FOB to rejoin their unit.

It's funny how you can go through so much in such short period of time with someone, and then
they're gone, and you'll probably never hear from them again.

Make the most of your time. It'll be gone, just like those soldiers, before you know it.

I must admit I was a bit disappointed that this thread and article got so little attention.
Perhaps the marine that wrote it was right, and too many people are stuck in the pasture
with the sheep, never lifting their head high enough to see above the herd.

There still are some of us who recognize what you do.
Thanks.

I know people who don't want to hear about anything sordid or unpleasant. "Close my eyes and it's not really there" kind of thing.

My question to them is "How can you change what you don't acknowledge?"

My first youngest son is on his last stretch of military boot camp and Afghanistan is looming very large in his mind. We've had some interesting discussions.

Thanks for posting this Dave. I can't say I enjoyed reading it but it is information we should all know.

To your success,

Geez Dave,
I am so behind on these posts at BN. I like to check in with your posts here but this one escaped me. My head swims when I think of what many of you experience in places like Afghanistan. I am, basically, a pacifist and I have to say that I want things to be different in the world. But Like Joyce said, "You can't change what you don't acknowledge".

Dave,I totally appreciate all of you who volunteer your lives while we sit here comfy. I do NOT take it for granted and I pray everyday with thanks for you all. When each of us find the way to be at peace with everyone in our day to day lives the peace can spread to the rest of the world.

I thank you for keeping this before us. I am disappointed too that more haven't responded. It is easier for people to worry about blogs, seos and back links I guess. This is a social site too right?

Nothing changes. One time I told someone about my time in the Army and some jackasses were screaming NARC and killer and etc. I wasn't even in service that long.

The most honorable jobs are the most disrespected jobs. Can't change the world
