MLM - Friend or Fo?

Postby Michael Westbrook on Sun Aug 22, 2010 10:52 am

Like any industry, there are companies and company owners who do not always have the common good of their customers, employees or followers in mind.

The same holds true for MLM. While there have been a number of companies in the past who specialized in building misleading pyraminds that were barely more sturdy than a house of cards, there is still a large number of profitable MLM companies to be found on the web.

What to stay away from:
High upfront costs: If you are hesitant about paying a high price for 'the opportunity of the century,' GOOD FOR YOU! There are many marketers who will try to convince you that 'everything costs money.'

I'm here to tell you that it doesn't have to.

MLM is just one avenue of generating passive income on the web. Be smart about your prospects, and spend as little as possible to avoid being scammed.

This is a good article. It does remind me to think twice in the next MLM venture before I may undertake. I have spent a lot of money with little to no results on MLM's businesses. I am beginning to question some of the income that many profess to make before I'll make a commitment or not. Recently, I was asked to join a company that I knew little about. They took me through their website and explained the different sections to make money with. They explained that they would maintain the site for me and even link my present site to theirs. They made it sound so too good to be true. The first salesman was very aggressive. I stood my ground to be able to think about it first. The second saleswoman was very polite and quite understanding. She listened to me and my concerns on running the site with little down payment. I asked to let me do an informal research on the subject. Now that I have asked a few of my friends what they think of the business, it came down to one conclusion. That is that it was not cost effective at this point to do. It would cost more than the payoff would be in 50 years. On this venture, this MLM would be a foe!

Hey Mike,

This is the first time I heard someone give a warning against high end opportunities, and I must say I agree, because usually you are paying for "perceived value" and some of that extra money goes into the comp plan while the rest goes into the owners' pockets.

A couple of companies immediately came to my mind while I was reading your post, but I won't name names for the sake of not offending the distributors of those companies who are also members of this site.

I would also like to add that those companies are also notorious for brain washing their distributors and hyping them up to believe that they have the best thing since sliced bread.

Great post
