Postby Mark Taylor on Mon Mar 21, 2011 4:24 pm

Me:-"So, your asking me about Mobile Marketing right?"

Colleague. "Yes, I have seen an ad and im thinking about buying this new course!"

Me. "Ok have you already got an offer set up?"

Colleague. "Er, well yes"

Me. "Great! ( not without a hint of sarcasm), does it convert?"

Colleague. "Well I need more traffic before I can tell"

Me. "oh!, so have you got your Adwords campaign set up?"

Colleague. "Er, no."

Me. "What about your Yahoo campaign?"

Colleague " Er, No"

Me. "what about your Bing Campaign?"

Colleague " Er, No!"

Me. " So, your using Facebook Ads right?"

Colleague " Er, um, No!"

Me. "And your asking me about mobile?

This is a great post.
I don't like ads on my cell phone. It costs me and the life of my battery to use it.
I don't who started sending ads to cells since no one was getting any of them before. It does keeps the distraction down.
Give me a break too!

I can understand why someone would go for mobile marketing rather than Google, Yahoo, or Facebook - it's so much cheaper! If you're going to learn through trial and error, why wouldn't you want it to cost less?

I feel like the conversion rate on phones is super low. I hate getting those text messages and delete them instantly. Even if it's cheaper I feel when you factor lower conversion in, it wouldn't be worth it.

Mobile marketing is more than text message campaigns or ppc and I believe that all businesses should have a mobile website so their customers can find them.

As for the text messaging campaigns they have a place but not with businesses that have not even done any social media.

As for PPC on mobile- if targeted well it can be done less expensively.

I do believe that it is all relative to the type of business you have though and eventually a combined online and mobile presence is the best marketing solution.

Great discussion Mark!

Instead of learning how to target their audience, write ads that convert, track opt-ins and conversions, etc...

people look for easy options and are throwing mud against the wall and hoping that something sticks.

Hi! You all!

Cara...you are right!

The others posters remind me people that thought that Internet and computers were evil...and that were a waste of time...and that the Internet and pc's have not any possibility of success...that is normal every time a new technology leap is coming ...in a few months smart phones will surpass pc's sells.

People are on the go...and every day is more evident that mobile is the way to go...well...let's say for the YOUNG people...and when the buying power of the young is on the rise...the marketers that were positioning now...will have the huge profits...if you want to be left behind...keep thinking like an old pal.

Be well,

Roger Aburto

You maybe right, Roger.
People are more on the go than ever before in history. They are still connected more than ever before. Mobile marketing may just be the next best thing in marketing. An extra text message may just slow someone up a bit to read the message and respond quicker because they have the time.
The best time to reach someone and keep their attention is when they have the time at their leisure.
We may all get a chance to get with the program and go mobile with our ideas.
If people are ignoring what's in front of them, they will probably notice what's on their screen.

Going mobile is like following a prospect into the bathroom. To me, it's getting too personal. Most people treat their phone as if it were another appendage on their body. Although, I do not doubt that, in time, it will change. I see "do not contact" lists coming for that too.
