Screw You, Mark McGwire!

Postby Dave Kotecki on Tue Jan 12, 2010 2:59 am

Well friends, here we go again. Another worthless pile crying into the camera about his "mistakes" and how remorseful he is that he ever made those bad decisions.

Kiss my ass.

Hey Mark, did you ever stop to think of the damage you would cause by making such an admission? After lying to the whole world for years? After refusing to answer the questions you were asked by investigators? After all this time?!

The fact is that just about every coach and manager knew what the players were taking but ignored it for obvious reasons. The baseball strike had ended and all of those home runs being hit by Sosa and McGwire were bringing back disgruntled fans.

Like it or not, Mark McGwire helped save baseball and once the job was done, they all got the rug pulled out from under them of course. You can curse and scream at every baseball player but the fact is that it was known and it was encouraged by their bosses.

Correct me if I am wrong, but performance enhancing drugs weren't banned by major league baseball at the time. So what, other than the legality of using any drugs in his State has he done wrong? No athlete has ever been banned for taking a cortisone shot for pain. Cortisone is a steroid. As with a lot of different issues in the States there is more than one side to the argument. There is the side that you are pumped full of through the media which serves a political agenda. And there is an intellectual argument which in a lot of cases gets ignored. The arguments that physicians, scientists, you know... the people that ACTUALLY study this stuff make is that steroids really aren't that bad for you. All steroids really do is cut down your recovery time from working out, which allows you to work out more and as a result make bigger gains. You still have to put in the work though. I've never taken steroids, I don't really have any reason to. One of my best friends told me he wouldn't take steroids because he is too lazy for it to be worth spending the money and doesn't have that kind of time to spend in the gym. A documentary was made about this issue called Bigger, Stronger, Faster: The Side Effect of Being American. I recommend this to anyone who thinks steroids are evil... sort of a devil's advocate argument if you will.

I did use steroids back in the late 90's when I was working as a corrections officer and overnight as a bouncer. Haven't touched the stuff since 2001 and never will again because of all the problems I had. Recovery time is one thing but ultimately it does allow you to get much bigger due to the changes fascia tissues.

While steroids are not cigarettes or alcohol, there is nothing good about them. While you've heard of the side effects of hair loss and acme, the worst effect is the enlargement of the heart, the arteries hardening, liver and kidney damage ultimately leading to fatal heart attacks. I've had a few friends that competed in NC shows pass away over the years from heart attacks and they didn't even make it to 30.

I've seen the documentary and I see their points but trust me when I say this.....steroids will mess your life up. Don't use them unless its for medical reasons and prescribed by a doctor. They are nothing to play with for any reason whatsoever.

Hey Dave,

I can deal with people that have made mistakes and admit it. What I hate is when people lie about it for years and then when they finally HAVE to admit it, they don't really own up to it.

When he said that he didn't do it for the strength gains, but only did it for recovery purposes, I lost the last shred of respect for him. Sure it helped him recover, but you know he was loving the power.

It reminds me of a guy at my gym that got absolutely huge, then I didn't see him for a few months and when he finally reappeared he had lost 25-30 pounds and he tells me that he got the flu and couldn't work out. Right...
