The Mark Of True Wealth?

Postby Dave Kotecki on Tue Oct 05, 2010 2:18 am

I don't understand Facebook.
I wanted to comment on something T Harv Eckert said. Dont' know how.
So here's the thing.
He asked a question.
The mark of true wealth is determined by how much one can give away. True or true?

Well, here's my comment.
The question is bullshit. I'm using strong language because I despise those that have such command over the weak-minded flaunting their ability.

There is no end to what you can give away. So everyone has true wealth. True or true?

Oh, I know. You thought he was talking about money. Maybe he was. NOT. Wealth isn't defined by any thinking person in terms of only money. Therefore, he was referring to true wealth.

Any time I help someone, haven't I given? When I give, does what I have given go away? Nothing ever goes away, it just changes form and ownership. Therefore, you can't give something "away".

Besides, if you agree that you reap what you sow, your sowing (giving) will lead to reaping (getting). The paradox lies in wishing to give, but not thinking that you're giving only to receive something in return.

I have never understood those that give in expectation of calling in the favor. It just doesn't make sense to me.

I have nothing against Mr Eckert and I loved his book "Secrets of The Millionaire Mind". (title?) I don't like the question he asked.

And for anyone reading this: When was the last time you gave willingly of yourself or your money with no possible chance you'd ever be compensated for the act? Just because someone needed your help. And you gave it.

By the way. Giving is not the highest good you can do on Earth. Something bigger lies in your purpose. It isn't handed down by divine decree upon your birth. You choose it.

Absolutely Dave...

Your summation is spot-on as far as I'm concerned!

And, by the way, I gave freely of myself this very past weekend, without expectation or return...as I very often do!

Why do I do it as often as I do - simple really...

It make me a better person!

You are right. The true mark of wealth is not thinking of money. Have you noticed when a millionare gets sick, all the money in his world won't make him well. But if he was healthy, he is on top of the world. He can do anything. That is the true mark of wealth.
I have given away a house full of furniture and look for nothing in return. I like it better when I give to my church. You are giving it to someone who really needs it without payment. Giving things to charity organizations is good too. The next day you will see it in their show rooms for sale. Someone will profit off of your donation before it gets to the ultimate recepient. Recently, I gave a new box of clothes (3suits, pants, 6 shirts, and ties) to our local senior center for their use. Someone my size can use them. We got a new leather sofa and gave it away. We found my wife had back problems when sitting in it.
Sometimes when we re-read over a book, we can get different meaning each time. I watch movies the same way. I'll watch a movie several times like I never seen it before. Sometimes I get a different message from looking at it again. Don't give up on reading the book over. It may be something you overlooked.

The mark of true wealth is if when you wake up in the morning and you look yourself in the mirror, you have one of these :) on.

If you're happy with who you are and where you are, then you're truly wealthy. Now, I'm not stupid enough to think that money doesn't help put that smile on your face, but it's definitely not the main thing by far.

Hey Dave,

I can tell that this topic has you pretty hot, I had to read your post about 4 times to pick out your true meaning because it was filled with such passion...

Here are some of my thoughts:

When you give you must give without want. So many people teach this, but even as they teach they have a hidden agenda. The Law of the universe... :D

What you give away must be worth something to the other person, group or organization.

There is one thing that I can give away that does truly cost me and thats my time. We only have so much of it in our lives we will only last so long. The time I spent writing this reply I will never get Back.

Dave, I would like the resource of where and how he posed this question. I just want a better understanding and the context of how he ask it and what he said after.
