What True Business Leaders Do...

Postby C. Imanon on Sat Mar 12, 2011 6:41 pm

Recently I noticed that Donald Trump had given his endorsement to wireless mlm ACN. He has featured one of their products on his Apprentice reality show and has given his stamp of approval on the company, it's leadership and the company's vision. The whole thing kind of got me to thinking--how did the leaders with ACN get Donald Trump to support their business model wholeheartedly? What did these guys do or better yet, what did Mr. Trump see in their business that made him believe that ACN was worth his approval?

Well, maybe it is the fact that ACN has better product offerings, dedicated sales staff or more 'swag'. No, I think it has to do with leverage. I figured that maybe one or more of the leaders of ACN knows some people in Mr. Trump's leadership group and they decided to, "have your people call my people and will do lunch" kind of thing. I believe it is leverage that business leaders look to exercise the most on their business contacts. Let me explain.

When you sign up with Better Networker, you usually get some type of friend request that after you accept, you end up with a new contact. What you do with that contact is up to you, but I believe business leaders look for a way to gain leverage on that contact, try to derive some mutually beneficial arrangement from that contact. When I look at the contacts that I have gained in my short time here, I had to ask myself a question, what leverage can I gain from these contacts? I know that sounds selfish, but hear me out. We're in business to grow business and ultimately, derive profit from our endeavors. My argument is that in order to run a successful and thriving business, you have to find some way to gain some positive use from these associations. If you can't, then you probably have people in your list that aren't like-minded or even in the same industry as you so, outside of a friendly relationship you really have nothing in common business-wise.

Getting back to Trump and ACN, I'm sure that ACN is a top flight company. I have no doubt that the company more than likely, would've done fine without Mr. Trump's endorsement and they have all the swag in the world. With all that said, I'm gonna bet that in Mr. Trump's contact list he has some of the leaders' names with ACN and they likewise. Like real business leaders, they came together based on that connection and created a beneficial arrangement for both parties.

Now, I submit to you this question: Have you created or joined in any business ventures based on the people in your contact lists? If so, why and what became of that venture?

This is an interested question and a great way, I think, to actually set about making a decision of which company to join. About 5 years ago, while I was already having six-figure success with another network marketing company, I was introduced to my current company. I joined BECAUSE I felt it was a better match for the majority of contacts in my warm market - who consisted of primarily business owners, salespeople and professionals.

And it was... within the first month we had sponsored over 20 people who had previously told me "No" to joining the previous company. So, yes, I think this should be a consideration IF a person has a deep contact list and/or a list with significant influence.

Rob; thanks for the response. I was trying to elicit a 'deep thought' with my line of questioning. Ultimately, I want to manage my home-based business like a corporation would...best practices of course!

Frankly, I was looking for something at the same time, the company I am with now was looking for me!
I was looking for something natural to help me to help my doctor to service my condition. The company I found was looking for such a person in the same condition to try it on.
What true business leaders do, find people who are looking for the same thing to help them find what they are looking for.
Finding that match of looking for one particular person who is looking for the same thing to help them to achieve their goals is what a true business leader does. They find people to help achieve their goals.
