I have to agree with Nemo, many people think network marketing is a get rich quick ride. They simply don't realize that it does take work, consistency, dedication and a system that can be duplicated. Once they realize that the results aren't coming in, they quit. Networking marketing is a business and must be treated as one, a business that takes time. Maybe they just didn't have anybody that was a mentor to them? I don't know. What I do know is that it is the nature of this business, 97% who try fail, they just give up!
Many of you have the right mind set for this business, keep up the good work and don't give up!!

Re: Why is the failure rate so pervasive in network marketing?
Hi Linda,
Nice to meet you here in BN. My opinion is that they were not properly taught by their uplines/sponsors on how to market. All these people know in the beginning is just enroll 3-5 people and then expect that their dreams will just come into their faces. Network marketing is about sales and marketing as well as building relationships. And not all people dont know how to sell and market effectively because they were not trained by their sponsors. So after they ran out of warm market, etc.... they begin to get frustrated and struggle more to pitch their opportunities to others. So this is why when they fail, they begin to badmouth about their experience on mlm.

Good day everyone...
This is certainly a great thread - it will be interesting to see how far it goes.
Everyone has made valid contributions & all make sense - but the one reason that really stands out for me is that to succeed in network marketing, like any business - you MUST treat it like a business. I wrote a blog post on the 15th March about this...you can view that right here>> http://mlminsights.info/home-business-i ... s-mindset/
Have an inspired day!

Treat it like a business.....think like a business person.....get a business mindset..... these and other saying's maybe correct but I think that they are rather meaningless.
How is it possible to, think like a boxer, or a surgeon, or an astronaut, or a lawyer? the only way to think like any of those is to be trained and educated to think like they think. Does a boxer think like a surgeon? of course not. Business is learned. I suppose that some people are 'naturals' ... but when I read these forums those sort of people are few and far between. Every success story that I have read on here has been the result of education (including Mike Dillards) brought about not just by thinking but by self education, self tution, help from others and practicing what they were taught.
Most of the people that come into this type of business have no education in the business world (yes of course I accept that some do) but to say to a person who has no formal training in this field 'think like a business person' is a bit trite and about as much use as King Canute sitting on the beach and ordering the sea not to come in. It just leaves the person sitting on the beach watching the ocean come in and wondering 'what did I do wrong'? thats it, I am off now to think like a person taking a bath, regards Nemo.

Jim!
You are
soooooooo right! There are very few naturals in the business world. We all have to be taught if it doesn't just come to you by nature. Man, but at the same time not all people have the discipline to do what it takes to gain the knowledge that it takes to be successful. So basically, one has to be motivated and coachable in order to succeed in MLM. Maybe it isn't until people get involved in their opportunity and realize that they are going to have to really work that they get discouraged. But who really thinks that money drops from the sky?

Re: Why is the failure rate so pervasive in network marketing?
I think the failure rate is so pervasive because people who join have an unrealistic expectation of what it is going to take to become successful. They are usually making an emotional decision, which is o.k., but they don't necessarily consider that it is going to take more than being like everyone else to achieve the results they want. Unfortunately, not all uplines are in the business of giving value to their new recruits in order to make them better leaders. They want to grow their downline, but not build them up. So, usually after a few months, individuals lose the excitement they once had, because they have no idea what they are doing.
I know for myself, pre-Magnetic Sponsoring, I was all about selling the business opportunity and not building relationships or learning how to be a good leader. I just wanted to make the sale and collect the check. Sounds shallow...but I didn't know any better. That being said, once I learned to give value to others, which in turn made them know, like and trust me, it changed how I did business.

People want things but don’t realize that nothing is free. You have to work in and at your business to be successful. MLM representatives try to present how easy it is to make money. Just get two people and they get two etc. Well it’s not that easy.
Most people start without a plan and no accountability systems. Their up-line hopes someone down-line will take off and they benefit. When it doesn’t happen they quit (human nature). MLM is not a one hour per week business. The industry leaders should be honest with people.
