Just a heads up for all of you with youtube accounts...

I woke up this morning to comments on my Youtube profile from a couple of so called "scam artist" finders. These morons are out there flagging content without ever having watched it or even understand what it is.

I made the HUGE mistake of trying to have a real conversation with them about their misconceptions and how they could really benefit the community by providing content that was helpful instead of hurtful. After quite a few extremely rude comments (calling me a sissy boy - which is a real eye opener that they hadn't seen any of my videos, making fun of my haircut, swearing and more) they went into my videos, flagged a bunch of them and got my account shut down!

Moral of this story: block any hurtful comments you get, block users that do this sort of stuff and don't spend time trying to have a conversation with them.

These idiots have one video each on their profile and in both cases they have their faces hidden by paper bags or scarves and hats. It's really sad that they put so much effort into hating others instead of helping the community out.

Their usernames are BoBosworth56 and noble3131

You are absolutely right.

Earlier today "noble3131" posted a rude comment on one of my videos. I just blocked him and deleted the comment.

I learned a long time a go there is no point in debating someone who hides behind an anonymous name.

Question can't we do the same? flag them Just do a Google on their names and you have it. Then you can block them.

That's horrible Erica. That's one of the reasons I lean in the direction of hosting my own videos instead of uploading them to YouTube. Then I have control. The down side ( and it's pretty big) if you don't upload videos to YouTube they can't be viewed by iPhones. That's a pretty big market segment.

Anyway, hate this happened. Do you think you'll be able to get your account reinstated?

@ Peter- Good for you! I am glad you did it the right way. I should have listened to my mother's advice from when I was little and just walked away. Cyberbullies are the same as the regular school yard ones. I gave them power by acknowledging their existence.

@David- I'm sure we could shut them down but would that really help us or hurt them? They have one video each on their profile and could be back up and hating people again in minutes.

I am a huge advocate for not letting the negative press or feedback about the home business industry get under our skins because I know what we are doing is helpful, legitimate and worthwhile. I don't give people that bash our industry the time of day normally but I guess my compulsion to help people (even ignoramuses like these 2 jerks) got the better of me this morning.

This is what I get for trying to help them understand they could help more people by giving away real advice instead of posting hurtful, hateful comments and flagging content they have never even watched.

I'll do a post on my blog about it and as the saga continues (I have sent in a request to get the account reinstated) I'll keep everyone informed. Just in case it happens to them.

@Tony - Can you tell all of us how you set up the hosting for your own videos. I know there is a few option for this and after today's fiasco, I need to take a better look at this option.

And I have no idea if they will give my account back to me or how long it will take.

So all the videos on my blog/nerve center are gone and all the videos I have posted on here as well won't be accessible.

I'll let you know what happens.

@Gil - Thanks! Spread the word and let others out there know that this can easily happen to them and all the work they put in.

It's sad that we have no way to protect ourselves from this. This is one of the biggest reasons I don't use a free blogging service. I don't want anyone else to have control all the content on my blog. Now, I need to take control of my videos too.

that's one of the more disheartening aspects of the internet - even communities like these, have people in them who are not there to Help; and find joy in causing problems.

Yesterday I was attending a training at Main Street Marketing Machine...and Mike Koening did teach us...that prior to summit your video...when filling a form that you must be sure to uncheck the box that allow people to coment and... ban the posibility for your watchers to post comments...just to avoid that kind of situations.

I will review the training that was three hours long...to find the exact piece of information.

@ Roger - I know what setting you're talking about. It's very simple to ban people from commenting. One click of a box and that is all it takes to stop the comments - good or bad - from coming in but I like the interaction usually.

I get great feedback, I get questions, I get social proof that what I am talking about is the real deal and get to build a relationship with my viewers through the comments section.

It really is a dilemma...

Leave the comments open and deal with what comes in
OR
Shut them off and turn off the chance to interact with the people that are watching your content.

What does everyone else do?
