Content Delivery Throwdown: GVO vs EZS3 vs EdgeCast ...

Postby Richard Bravo on Fri Feb 19, 2010 5:37 pm

.

Just a quick question to product owners or video producers out there ...
Which content delivery network do you prefer for (secure) streaming video, mp3 and file storage?

Content Delivery Throwdown:
GVO vs. EZS3 vs. EdgeCast

I've spoke with all 3 of these networks.

Have you used either of them?
Which do you prefer and why?
What has your support experience been?
What are the pros you've experienced?
What are the cons you've experienced?
Was throughput streaming smooth?

If your preference is outside the scope of the 3 CDNs listed then please list your favorite and answer the questions accordingly. If you have an alternative content delivery mechanism feel free to share.

Thanks.

:!: *Please do not try to pitch me!
I already have someone selected if I go with GVO.
I'm only looking for zeroBS feedback from actual users.

I worked with Joel Therien's team at Kiosk.
I found out about him from Mike Filsaime.

I went with GVO because of their reputation and the
fact that they are marketers serving marketers and
understand what I need.

My experience with them has been favorable so far,
and their customer support is good. (which is important to me
because I don't want to spend my time answering tech questions)

Their overall business plan also fits well with mine.

Hey Richard,

Can only speak for EZS3 which absolutely rocks and I cant live without it.

Easy to use and a great choice of players.

Havent used support yet but havent needed to either. Once you have it setup with Amazon S3, it's super easy to use.

Streaming...
Always smooth from what I can tell. They do have an additional feature called Cloudfront which speeds up the streaming, but haven't used that yet.

As for GVO, I joined, snooped around and then canceled. There are some hot gadgets in there, but changing hosts is just to much of a mission for me (just completed an upgrade a few days ago) which is probably my only reason for not going with them.

That's my 2cents! :ugeek:

Hello Richard,

Been awhile as I've been focused on building my GVO business and launching my new site, which I'm sure you know I'll be coming to you for some advice and feedback shortly.

To respond to your questions:

1. Only used GVO so can't comment on the other 2 companies.

2. Support for GVO I can say is top notch. They have live web based support whenever you need it. During normal U.S business hours its live internal company support. After hours is outsourced. The company also responds quickly to support tickets. I can't stress enough how impressed I have been with Joel's integrity as a business owner goes. The few times there have been any problems he immediately shoots out a video explaining exactly what the problem was and what is being done to fix it.

3. The Pros are obviously the price for unlimited video hosting is included with your titanium package. As well as the ease of use of ez video producer software even for a non-techie like me. I think it takes me something like 6 clicks and I have a video uploaded to my site. I do know Joel is adamant about our video services being on par with Amazon's S3.

4. The Cons and again being a non-techie not sure if its because of my wireless connection, computer, etc but sometimes I've noticed the videos on some of the prospecting landing pages seem to sputter and I have to pause and let the whole video download.

5. But overall I would say the throughput streaming is pretty smooth.

Well I hope you find this helpful especially with all you do for everyone on this board and don't forget you can try it out for yourself for a full 2 weeks for a buck. If you have any additional questions I haven't addressed you know how to reach me.
Sincerely,

Dave Statler
