Creating a Wordpress Video Squeeze Page

Postby Stephens Modise on Fri Jan 07, 2011 5:30 am

Hi everyone,

I'm in the process of creating a wordpress site. I'm creating it for promotional purposes only for a product I'm launching (see example of what I'd like to create @ http://www.miadavies.com/2011dreams/). I've searched online for tutorials & more info on creating wordpress video squeeze page but can't find anything relevant.

What I have in mind is quite simple: A wordpress video squeeze page with short text, no opt-in form.
I tried creating a squeeze page on my wordpress blog and went on to "add new page - Templates". But under templates I don't have an option for creating a squeeze page or sales page for that matter.
Are these plugins that I need to install? If so, how do I go about doing that?

I need to create this page ASAP. Your assistance would be highly appreciated.

Regards to you all...

Stephens--

What you are trying to do can be difficult, depending upon the theme you are using for your Wordpress site. You can create a new page template and add it to your theme, but it will require custom coding to prevent the site header and footer from being added to it.

Typically, the best approach is to create a separate landing page outside of Wordpress and use that. It will not interfere with the other pages you have set up on your blog.

I have personally tried numerous plugins that provide this sort of functionality, but have not been impressed. Especially in light of the fact that the plugins were available for a fee. In my opinion, it is better to spend your money on hiring a programmer to create the templates. That way, the templates do exactly what you want. (In the interest of full disclosure, I am a programmer.)

I hope that helps. Please feel free to contact me if you have further questions.

A squeeze page without an optin is a landing page.

Do you have access to your cpanel where you can upload files to your wordpress, if you do then there is hope :)
It's quite difficult to put it in one post. You need to create a template page (you can copy what ever is in the page.php on the appearance>editor) without the header and footer code of your wordpress and add additional bit of code at the top of your template page, save it as php and upload it to your wordpress theme folder.

This is the code you put in the beginning of the file :
<?php
/*
Template Page: My Landing page (this can be whatever name you want)
*/
?>

Once you have done that (with the right code) this file will come up on the appearance>editor of your wordpress dashboard. And when you create a page, select that page as a template.

Hope it helps.
By the way I'm not really that techie but my super ninja team mate Jans helped me out with this.

The easiest and quickest way to do this is by having the right Wordpress theme. But since I am suggesting that you use a theme, you may need to get another URL and hosting account. But, you could have it all done by this afternoon if time really is of the essence.

To learn what I use, check out this Youtube video I created http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdS9l02ZPW8

My suggestion would be to have one wordpress hosting account that you can use with this theme to make multiple sales pages :)
