Do you have ipad, ipod or iphone?

Postby judia andrew on Mon Jan 10, 2011 6:10 pm

Hi guys

I upgraded my website http://www.simplehealthtips.net and part of the deal is to make it compatible on the above gadgets. If you have any of these, please open up the website and see if you can access it without any problem. If you have any issues let me know and I can address it with my designer.

Thanks Your time is appreciated

Hey Judia,

On my iPhone it looks pretty much exactly the same as the desktop version. I can't see a difference, if there is meant to be!

It works though. It all works.

I've attached a screenshot of it on my iphone screen below.

Hope this helps!

Judia--

It does look the same on the iPhone. And therein is the problem. They have done nothing to make the site more suitable for the phone.

Phone browsers do not have all of the capabilities that desktop browsers do. Therefore, certain elements will not work on a phone. Flash, for example, will not play on an iPhone, iPad, or most Android phones.

The main issue with your site is the fact that your newsletter subscribe bar (with the postal box) blocks your content. It will not stick to the bottom of the browser window like it does on a desktop browser. You can see in the screenshot posted that the postal box covers your ebook optin box.

Ideally, your site should be able to identify what browser is being used and display content in a manner suitable for that device. For example, the newsletter optin bar should display on a desktop, but not on a phone. Really, the website should show a different newsletter optin when it detects it is being viewed from the phone.

The site looks great. It just needs some minor adjustments to make it suitable for phone use.

I hope that helps.

The bottom opt in box doesn't float on an iphone.

Also, there's tons of space between each article.
Overall, good site. Just a couple oddball fixes.

I brought it up on my iPad and listed a few little issues I would address if it were my site:

As mentioned by someone else, the "subscribe to newsletter" slide up that is supposed to appear at the bottom of the page (and stay at the bottom of the page as the page is scrolled) doesn't work. It is where it is, and as you scroll, it scrolls as well.

The connection icons on the upper right quad over lap the image - tho it doesn't look bad. This is a function of the iPad auto-setting the width to display the web page at.

SexyBookmarks has to be clicked once to open the buttons, and again to select the option. You have selected EVERY icon available which is a little overwhleming. I prefer to use only the most popular so that they occupy only one row. That way, the single click would work, and the reader isn't over whelmed.

There appear to be two left sidebar's. One that contains a series of links (I can't see all because of the mailbox and newsletter stuff), joint pain, immune health and healthy skin. The second sidebar contains About, Privacy Policy, Disclaimer, etc.

You might also consider a mobile version of your site (assuming Wordpress, then try uploading and activating plugin called WP-Touch) at the subdomain m.simplehealthtips.net that removed the things that don't display well.

Also, remember the smaller devices don't have as much screen real estate, and your logo is enormous. I can see no content in landscape mode, without scrolling. It's a little better in portrait mode, but the text drops to such a small size as to be almost unreadable.

Hope this helps.

I see it on my iPhone. However the subscribe to newsletter stays on the middle part of the page. When you click on a link and read an article the subscribe to newsletter is still there. Also a mobile version would be better. More option to your visitors would be nice.
