Editing .MOV files

Postby Sandeep Nath on Sun Oct 17, 2010 5:42 am

I am increasingly facing issues editing videos from my camera which outputs .mov files...
your experiences will help...

As I see it, there are 2 options to edit .mov in a PC:

1. Convert the file to .wmv and use windows movie maker
2. Get quicktimepro for PC and edit the original camera output

The issue lies in the conversion process. It causes the .wmv to pause in windows movie maker
and therefore WMM does not save the file - it announces an error instead.

Questions:

1. I have read very bad reviews of quicktimepro; limited functionality etc. What's your experience?
2. Is there a third option beyond the 2 listed above?
3. Is there a better option to windows movie maker - paid or free - that comes with a trial period?
4. Is there a better .mov to .wmv converter than one I got for $25 here http://www.aone-video.com/mov.htm

Hi Sandeep,

Try checking out AVS Video Editor:
http://www.avs4you.com/AVS-Video-Editor ... e&cid=9958

(That's not an affiliate link)

It's completely free - no trial period or anything like that.

And to round out the main operating systems:
- Mac: Screenflow ($99, but worth every penny)
- Linux: Open Movie Editor (free)

Thanks,
Ted

I highly recommend Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD for PC video editing. Professional video editing package, yet easy to use. You can also try it for free before spending the $50 or so. I have a video tutorial on it here:
