Facebook Fanpage Help

Postby Glenn Langridge on Fri Dec 10, 2010 6:44 pm

I am trying to give my Fanpage a bit of an shot in the arm to make it more attractive. I've already added an FBML tab with an AWeber Opt in Form which seems to look and work quite nicely.

I now want to add another FBML tab as a Welcome tab to introduce myself and explain a little about the product. Here is where I've run into a brick wall. I have no knowledge of HTML or anything like that though am happy to learn as I go.

I need to find a suitable software package (free would be good) that I can play with simple templates to create a page that adheres to the Facebook 520 pixel policy. At the moment I'm not looking for anything fancy or complicated, just something that will allow me to upload a series of images of the product with descriptions beneath and a couple of headers/footers. It would at least give me a fanpage that's fit for purpose so I can move on to other things such as creating a blog.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi Tristan,

I actually signed up for Jo's tutorials a couple of weeks ago. I got the free videos but never received any of the other things promised such as the ebooks on building a webpage and loading a video and I also didn't receive the free templates. I have tried contacting her but received no reply. :(

Do you have the link to the templates at all?

Glen

There's a guy called John Walker who is on my facebook friends list. He's giving tons of info, shows you how to do it, AND templates ready. Have a chat with him mate. Or pm and I'll send you his profile status and ask him.

It's simple stuff and I'm sure you can apply and he's contactable too and will reply fast.

Hopefully you can get it sorted that way.

Out of interest, I'd still be interested in a good FREE web design software for the total idiot starter.

I have a copy of Microsoft Frontpage 2003 sitting about in its box somewhere. Is this now too old and clunky for a novice user to consider nowadays?

There is a free software called NVU.

I don't use it anymore as it's not great for CSS. I rather use industry standards softwares like dreamweaver. However, NVU can be one you can try and use. Google it.

I have used Dreamweaver to build standard HTML web sites. This doesn't fall into the free category, but I found it much better than Frontpage.

But now I use Wordpress for most new sites as it is free with most web hosting packages. There are many plugins that do just about anything needed and there are also a lot of free templates to make it look more like a website than a blog. I also find that all of the support forums for Wordpress answer almost any question when I run into problems.

For other sites I have used Joomla which again is free with web hosting and can provide more functionality than Wordpress for some things. Joomla also has a large user community for help.

In any case I recommend that novices use these platforms to crank our some great looking sites without having to spend a lot of time learning HTML coding.

Good luck with your projects!

Glenn, I too got Jo's free fanpage stuff and thought that I did not receive the info for some time. Then I went back through the emails she sent out and found one with some links to fanpage generator etc. You may want to check the thank you email for that info. :D
