Hi all,

I've put together a collection of free tools that I've found very useful in due course and wanted to share:

Graphics: GIMP, http://www.gimp.org/downloads/
- This program rivals Photoshop and has many advanced features. Plus, because it's open source, the support community is massive.

Graphics: Inkscape, http://inkscape.en.softonic.com/
- For you Adobe fans, this is an Illustrator clone. I use it to edit PDFs.

FTP: FileZilla, http://filezilla-project.org/download.php
- Classic FTP program that most of you likely already know about. Very easy to set up.

Productivity Suite: OpenOffice, http://download.openoffice.org/
- Absolutely outstanding rival to MS Office. It reads and can write MS Office file formats, including xlsx, docx, etc. Document creator/editor, Spreadsheet, Presentation, Database, and more. Superb product.

PDF Combiner: PDFCreator, http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/
- This program installs itself as a printer. To create a multi-page PDF, simply print each individual PDF to PDFCreator, then when done, click Print, and voila.

Web Page Editor: KompoZer, http://www.kompozer.net/download.php
- Primarily, I use this to create capture pages. Similar to FrontPage or Dreamweaver, but MUCH simpler.

Screencast: VirtualDub, http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/
- Haven't used it presonally, but it looks VERY promising. I would definitely have tried if I didn't already plunk down cash for Screenflow.

Screencast: (Firefox users) CaptureFox, https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/8090/
- Not quite a Camtasia or Screenflow killer, but for something that takes seconds to download, the quality is amazing. Saves in AVI format, so uploading to YouTube is easy.

- Just click the Downloads link in the top navigation bar, then choose your operating system under CineFX.
