Indexing issues

Postby Perig Vennetier on Tue Dec 22, 2009 12:03 pm

Hi everyone,

I am having some doubts about how my blog is actually indexed in Google. Here is the story.

I created my blog (http://www.PerigVennetier.com) and started by converting everything in French using a plugin to do so because I wanted to target this market. I posted a couple of blog posts in French.

After a while I changed my mind and reversed everything to English and started to post in English again. I have been posting in English since them (about 2 months now)

However, for some reason I think that Google still thinks my blog is in French because I see more of my pages showing up in the Google.fr than in the Google.com index search.

See for example a capture of search "index" on keywords related to "usana".

The articles written around these keywords are in English but you can see that more pages are showing up in Google.fr than Google.com. It doesn't make sense to me.

I have some good knowledge with wordpress and setting all this up in general but here I am stuck. Maybe it is normal here but I have other websites where it's not that hard to show up higher in Google. So I am wondering if there is something abnormal.

Anybody with Wordpress knowledge who would have any idea, suggestions, clues of what is going on?

I would for sure appreciate it because all my efforts for generating traffic through search engine is fruitless so far because of this non ranking.

I think the problem with your site is spider visits. Big G takes some time to update their databases. If you post another articles this days. try to submit it to yahoo buzz. Im sure that Big G will update all of the recent changes in your site. When I change my meta tile and I want Big G to update it ASAP in their SERP's I just PINGED them by posting articles to my blog and then submit it via Y Buzz. :D

do you use wordpress? If you do you should def. check out Google XML sitemap plug-in as it is good at handling language conversion issues. Image

Hi guys,

Thank you for your responses.

I posted my latest posts to Yahoo buzz, as well as Yahoo, Google and Bing "webmasters tools".

I have my XML sitemap already ready and updated with each new post.

I think that what's happening is that I created some backlinks from website in French at the beginning so when I get more english backlink it may change the recognized language.

Wait and see.

Here is a quick update. I asked the question on Google forum and i was told to check the "geo-target" option to set it up to "US". It seems that my site doesn't display this "french" tag anymore.

I'm no expert in Wordpress, but have been using it quite often lately. I have set mine to ping multiple blog engines once I create a new post. Some of the ping sites ask you which blog services you actually want pinged, so I would double check that "Google Blog Search" has a check mark next to it (Ping-O-Matic) also I noticed that you said you had a sitemap.xml ... A while ago I was searching through the Google Webmaster site, and noticed that Google likes to see a Sitemap.xml with a capital S. I'm not really sure if that makes a difference, but to be safe... I have it in caps... Maybe someone knows more about this little tweak?
