Need Help In Setting Up A Recommends Webpage.

Postby willie robertson on Sun Dec 19, 2010 1:45 pm

Hello BN Family,

I am seeking help on the proper steps for setting up a recommend webpage.

Here is what I am trying to do:

Example: Promote an e-book using http://www.mydomain.com

Then I would like to use the same domain as http://mydomain.com/recommends having it re-direct to another site.

I have seen others do this but I am not sure how they did it.

I don't think it is done with add on or subdomains, they seem to require a prefix before your domain, like: info.mydomain.com

I am wanting to re-direct from the recommends page to another website and mask it.

So, in summary, I am wanting to promote using http://www.mydomain.com
Then use that same domain as http://mydomain.com/recommends?

Suggestions of how to do this would be most appreciated.

You can also set up a redirect in your Cpanel of your hosting account. Usually, this is the quickest way to get the job done. If you are going to write multiple reviews, you may want to think about getting some sort of affiliate links management script.

Hi Willie, I am trying to see if I understand you correctly. So , bear with me. You have your sales page at - yourdomain.com, do you then have a link to - yourdomain.com/recommends?

If I understand correctly, you will post content on your main domain and then provide a link which directs the prospect to the Recommends tab which will then do a re-direct to another website but I will guess, through your affiliate link?

I use Thesis to get this done, it allows me to do a 301 re-direct on a page. So I can have my main domain and then setup another page called Recommends but as soon as someone clicks the tab, it redirects them to the affiliate site but through my affiliate link.

I hope I understood correctly what you were trying to get help with? If you need any additional help, please do not hesitate to contact me.

All the best

Hey Willie,

If you are using wordpress you can use a plugin called prettylink (the free version works perfectly). That way you can create as many unique extensions of your url right in your wordpress dashboard. And you can change settings to get it to track just the way you want. So for example... if you want to see how many people click on your facebook profile link you can set it up to be http://yourdomain.com/go/facebook and use that url as your hyperlink.

Hope that makes sense and helps. If you have any other questions just pm me.

Hello all,

Thank God for the BN community where one can learn, share plus get help from others.

Thanks to you all, Richard, Kristie, Alan and Peter for responding to my question and offering your suggestions.

Needless to say I was becoming very frustrated trying to comprehend all this.

Well thanks be to God and my mentor Chris Farrrell, I found that there was a very simple solution to my seeming dilemma. (A Link cloaking software.)

Yep, I got access to a link cloaking program that did exactly what I was trying to do.

Thanks again to you all that offered your advice and suggestions.

Sincerely,

Willie
