With more and more companies taking their businesses online, a lot of web hosting companies offer their services, claiming that they are the best and most affordable in the field. - Affordability
- Web Storage Space
- Bandwidth
- Reliability
- Features

I agree that there are a lot of hosting providers and having an idea of what you want can help choose a company. Which hosting provider do you use?

I have seen many newbies going for free type of web hosting services, which are very unprofessional and unreliable, for learning purpose or for just running our non commercial personal blog it can be ok but one should never host his business website with a free web hosting account.

Yes, I think that hosting a business website on a free platform like WordPress and blogger is not necessarily the safest thing to do, especially if a lot of work is being done or has been done for the site.

Great points guys!

The biggest things really are the reliability, customer service, and price, followed by features. I have worked with almost every major hosting company out there and hostgator is BY FAR the best company you can work with right now.

::shameless self promotion warning::
In fact, I currently run a hosting company where we give free domains and a free month of hosting - also set up your fully optimized blog. (http://wordpressinstalled.com)

But the reason I bring that up is we have been running strong on hostgator managed servers with 0 downtime over the last two years (and only 2 outages on my other account over 6 years each lasting less than 15 min)

Plus anytime there is a problem they are able to fix it right away via phone or live chat, and even when its out of their control they will often help point you in the right direction.
