Blogger is a great starting point. However, hubpages is also a good place to blog and it has the advantage of being a part of a community of bloggers.

Re: Which blog platform is best for newbies?
im a newbie when it comes to blogs, although I never tried blogger I never had a problem with my self hosted wordpress which took me about 5 min to set up which was cool. I love all the plug-ins that it provides and got some really great traffic and leads from it my first two weeks blogging which is what I want.
But i also heard good things from blogger as well, whatever you choose should be alright as long as you know what you want a blog for. Both can do its purpose whether if its to get traffic, leads, and recruit for you.
Cheers

I am also new to blogging and asked Mike Dillard this same question. His advice was to find someone local and pay them $50 to sit down with me at a coffee shop for a couple of hours. I did and it was money well spent.
Good luck.

.
If you know me at all you know I am a total Wordpress evangelist.
I love Wordpress for the ease of use and "out of the box" speed of implementation.
The free solutions don't hold a candle to what you can do with your own self hosted blog.
Noob Lingo Definition
Although there are other solutions out there, that are extremely powerful, Wordpress is by far the easiest solution for a "non tech" or noobie marketer to get a web presence up and running quickly and easily with limited ongoing management required.
It can also be an extremely powerful CMS for more savvy marketers.
I find myself discovering new things the platform is capable of every day.
It literally blows me away just how powerful this thing is.
And once you do learn the ropes ...
Man, I have yet to find anything that allows me to launch a new site (or a niche dominating network of competition crushing mini sites) faster and easier than Wordpress.
But that's more "Jedi" type stuff you probably don't want to hear about right now ...

Self Hosted:
A website that is installed, managed and controlled by you on your own web hosting account.
Opposed to a 3rd party solution such as Blogger.com which is hosted on their hosting.
- Search Engine Friendly: (basic SEO principles built-in.)
- Rapid deployment: (less than a few hours setup including a semi-custom theme)
- Simple Learning Curve: (publishing environment similar to popular office software.)
- Inexpensive: (free software + $10mo web hosting + $9yr domain name = $129 annually)
- Extensible: (an open source community constantly developing new plugins for greater customization.)

WORDPRESS WORDPRESS WORDPRESS...
You are a Professional!!!
All the competition is at the bottom... There is NO COMPETITION at the top.. so take the time to do things right! By taking pains to set up your Wordpress Self Hosted Blog you will leapfrog over 9 of every 10 people which will immediately put you in the top 10%... a better place to be i can promise..
It may be slightly harder at first but.. if it's all new to you then it's not that much more to learn...
with the speed of technology you really need to be a leader and professional and that means doing things right! Your blog should be your Central Focus... Your 'House' so to speak on the Internet.. You have a choice to put up a shack.. or put up a really beautiful home... (the learning curve is not much different)
Which one do you think will give the better impression for your new prospects and connections..?
If you are using a blog to become a professional.. and by professional i mean if you intend to use it to get paid.. then i implore you Don't take the easy Way Out!!
All the best,
Roger S.
P.S. if you are using blogs for feeder sites and to build links to your primary properties then I highly recommend sits like blogger, wordpress.com,weebly, hubpages, squidoo etc... but not to build your primary property!

Re: Which blog platform is best for newbies?
I agree that Blogger is much easier to use and you can get your blog up and running faster. That is where I started because I wasn't sure of how to use Wordpress. But what I learned quickly is that if you are serious about ranking for Google and want the flexibility and freedom of hosting your own blog Wordpress is the way to go. The secret is finding a good online training webinar that walks you through setting up your own domain and Wordpress blog step-by-step. In hindsight, I wish I had used the time it took to set up a Blogger blog to learn how to work with Wordpress. It is truly worth the effort and you OWN your blog that way. No one can tell you to change it or take it down. I have several Wordpress sites now and love working with Wordpress. Hope this helps.
If you want a system that will walk you through setting up a Wordpress Blog and give you a step-by-step blueprint on setting up an entire lead generation system, test drive MLM Lead System Pro for 14 days for only $1.00. This is where I learned. Here is a link to MLM Lead System Pro and some free training for you.
