Wordpress and Videos

Postby judia andrew on Sat Dec 04, 2010 10:18 pm

Hi guys

I need your brilliance. I have a wordpress blog in which I want to have a video. Apparently I can only add video as a link. Searched wordpress.org and found a plugin 'Embeded' and installed it. In the description it said to add the url in single line in a post and publish and this plugin will turn it into a video. Did it but no luck, it was appearing as a url. No ideo how this plugin works. I was adding it in a page. would that make any different? also this page is already published and I wanted to add a video to make it interesting.

Give me your feed back guys. Much appreciated

Hey Judia,

Honestly I am not sure if your looking to use YouTube, but if you add the video to YouTube and then grab the "embed code" you will be easily be able to add posts to your blog.

If you would like to keep the video Private, then you can add it to a Facebook Fan Page and then do the same thing. Upload the video, then when you go to the video page, there is a link that says "embed this video".

Then go to Wordpress, "Add New Post" and then there is a tab that say HTML... Once you check off the HTML tab in the top of the body text section of "add new post" you can paste in the "embed code" hit update post and your video with player will shown!

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need any more help!

Depending on the plugin, some might only work on posts rather than pages for this sort of thing.

FLV Embed is pretty cool, and it supports video sitemap generation as well:

Thanks kevin and des. Kevin I did it and it works. One more thing how can i make it appear in the middle of the page. It is aligning to the left and nothing makes it move to the centre

What I do is put an XXX where I want the video to show up. You can then just "center" the XXX just like you would any other text. Then click the HTML VIEW on the editor and paste in the video embed code where you have the XXX and it should now be all nice and centered for you.

You can also go back to youtube and choose a larger player. When you embed it into your WP post, it will take up the entire width..be centered and easier to watch.

Just put <center> before the embed code and then </center> at the end. That should do it.

.

Judia, here's one more option using CSS ...

Code: Select all
<div style="margin: 0px auto 0px;">
PUT YOUR VIDEO CODE HERE
</div>

What you're doing here is ...

Wrapping the video in a <div> container.
Then using {style="margin: 0px auto 0px;"} specifying that the left and right side of the <div> have a margin that is automatically added equally on both sides to cause the div to be positioned in the center of the content area it is placed in.

Happy Coding!
