Wordpress Plugins

What plugins do you use with Wordpress? Looking for suggestions for anything. SEO, posting, appearance, etc.

Thanks.

Great question.
They fluctuate as I'm always testing new things.

This is my "standard issue" list:
All In One SEO
Google Analytics for WordPress
Google XML Sitemaps
Reveal IDs for WP Admin
Contact Form 7
Post Template
FeedBurner FeedSmith

This is my current "testing" list:
Flickr RSS
Sexy Bookmarks
TweetMeme
Twitter Tools
WassUp

There's a few others in the "secret sauce" recipe that I use based on the needs of the site.

There are so many good plugins out there, it all depends on what you are trying to do.

All In One SEO pack is a great plugin for SEO. You can set it to automatically generate your keywords and Titles for your pages. You can also override this behavior and create your own keywords, title, and description for each individual post. You can also set a default description for your posts and pages. It has many options.

Google Analytics for Wordpress allows you to insert your google analytics tracking code independent of your theme, so that changing themes will not obliterate your tracking code from displaying.

Social Profilr is another great plugin for adding links to your Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, etc. Again, it is theme independent.

Google XML Sitemaps is great for dynamically generating a sitemap to submit to search engines. It can be customized to ignore certain categories, tags, types of pages. Very useful for not having duplicate page entries.

As far as appearance, there are many themes out there. Flexibility (http://www.flexibilitytheme.com/)is a good free theme that is very easy to use and gives you many options. Thesis (http://diythemes.com/?a_aid=dlrtc) is a premium (costs money) theme that is very flexible and gives you many point and click options. No programming skills are required to customize the theme.

Hope that helps.

One plugin you will want to activate is the "Askimet" plug-in. It comes included with wordpress, but you have to add the key and activate it.

Once you start getting traffic to your blog, you'll get a TON of spam comments. This plug-in sorts them and will save you a ton of time.

You get the API key for Akismet by signing up for a Wordpress.com account.

Hi Guys,

I have seen on some people’s Wordpress blogs that they have a few full size articles then underneath they may have some small boxes with articles. I don't know the name of the plug-in and I would really like it.

Any ideas what it is?

Add this to your list as well:

1. Seopressor
2. Popupdomination and
3. GASP plug in

The first and second plug in are paid plug ins.

Hi Trevor,

I think what you are talking about is not a plugin but the way that particular theme shows additional posts.
