Are You Networking Because it's a Passion?

Postby Tony Lauria on Fri Sep 25, 2009 1:42 pm

Just as any other profession, Networking has people in it because they love what they do, passionately. But it also attracts many who get into it because it looks easy and who think they'll make a killing, quickly. That's a bad vibration attracting others with the same ill conceived notions.

As in any other profession it is usually this latter type that gives a profession a bad name.

Good question, Tony.

For me, it's about my love for the game... making friends and helping people, which "surprisingly" (j/k) allowed me to have many more friends and a big business.

Hey Jerry,
Thanks for your comment. I appreciate your answer. If you don't enjoy what you do, you won't do it very well. And the friends and associates ARE part of the payback, aren't they?

Hey Tony:

You see Tony, people have always been my passion, by me being a nurse for a very long time. Well, when I first designed my course at UMASS, I was in love with learning,IT, and interacting with students on-line. And as time has gone by, I thought to myself, although nursing will always be my number one passion, I want to retire and be with my daughter. Yes, I find networking quite challenging and I like that.
Yes, I get frustrated and overwhelmed, but it is a normal process. I know you need to acquire knowledge and have desires and creativity and solutions. Life is full of journeys, I want to take this journey. If I can help my daughter to a different lifestyle, then yes, my networking is my passion.
If you are a network marketer and you are focusing on building your network marketing business. Isn't it time to simplify things and understand exactly what to do? http://TNNMarketing.com

Yes..It's a passion!

Networking is a passion for me for a few reasons. As a lifelong student, my study of network marketing a number of years ago led me to understand the power of the industry. My "why" is strong and networking is the means to the end.

I've been a clinical social worker for almost 20 years and a business coach for 10. Network marketing allows me to use my professional skills, but to do so with healthy people. I am blessed to have helped many with severe mental illnesses find their way. But that type of work begins to take an energy toll after a while. As I coach and train other network marketers I am enjoying all the aspects of that type of human relationship in an energy enhancing manner. I love helping others and I love it even more now that the time spent doing it only serves to get me more energized and excited.

Well, I have a lot more passion for working
for myself from home than I do for living in a
40 ft box with 5 other guys in the middle of
the Afghan desert!

Hey Dave,

thanks for your comment. I'm sure you would prefer working from home than from the Afghan desert!
and God speed.

Though I don't expect to hear from them, I posted the question to address those who entered the networking arena 'cause they thought it'd be easy and the money good. This is a deceptive business, simple in concept and not so simple in executing every phase of it.

So to my thinking, passion is an absolute necessity to get you through the rejection and the routine. It also becomes more fun when you're driven.

I network because I got bills to pay. I've met a lot of good friends over the years but network marketing still comes down as a great way of promoting my business.

A lot of people get caught up with a cult like view of network marketing as though its some sort of spiritual or political action movement and if so, then they are not thinking straight.

Your passions should be reserved for non-profit activities. Mine for example is competing as a bodybuilder, assisting in the President's Council for Fitness, and other charitable ventures.

So I recommend that folks not go overboard in networking as a movement but see it as it is which is a business activity for profit

Tony I think this is a great question.
I read all the posts and really enjoyed everyone's views. I wanted to add my own.

While I agree with Marvin in that you absolutely must treat network marketing as a business set up to provide profits; it is next to impossible to truly create success in networking unless you are passionate about your business.

I stared in network marketing 3 years ago and had a year of absolute failure. I got taken in and spent a lot of money to be left more confused and discouraged then when I began. I even went out and got a JOB.

Well when the JOB fell apart (Michigan is hurting folks) I knew I had to find a way to make it from home. I had the business experience having spent 20 years working for 6 different startups as an operations manager (last stint was at a little place called Netflix) So I kinda get this entreprenuer thing.

Anyway, I started looking for the right opportunity and again got bombarded with crap.

I was lucky though I met a fantastic lady who introduced me to travel. I didn't want to rep a travel business but I knew Holly would help me; so I joined.

4 months later I was doing really well learning how to network but I still wasn't selling travel memberships. Holly was great, supportive and spent a ton of time with me teaching me how to prospect and call and get them to webinars and... But...

Then through my wonderful network of contacts I was introduced to Tampogo. I was hooked. I started with tampogo 5 weeks ago. I now have almost 30 people on my team. I am working directly with one of the cofounders to create a 5 figure income in 90 days. I COULD NOT do this if I wasn't completely, 100% passionate and believed in the Company.

I was successful in my first career in 4 our of 6 startups (made money on stock options for all 4; needless to say lots of money from Netflix stock). Now I have found that same opportunity online with visionary leaders, a free to join business opportunity and something anyone can understand and get their arms around.

Plus; and I saved the best for last I am helping to feed starving children throughout the world. Every product that is purchased feeds a starving child for a week..

Yup You bet your breakfast I am in networking because it is a Passion and I will succeed because I treat it like a business and give it attention and action.

Wow.... I guess you can see I am passionate; thanks for listening!

Well, it is true that you should sell a product that you believe in but I was referring more to the "network marketing fanatics". Basically people who are obsessed with network marketing and get too emotionally attached to a business opportunity.

Network marketing is a business....its not feeding the homeless, volunteering at the animal shelter, or helping to free the whales. I've met a lot of great people and friends but its still a business.
