Do You Believe In Resolutions or Goals??

Postby Lynda Cromar on Tue Jan 03, 2012 12:42 pm

Trick question  I believe you can have both. Here is the trick though, resolutions such as they talk about for the beginning of a new year are not just promises that you can break easily!

I believe we are way too quick to break our promises to ourselves! If we want to be the leader to a big organization, then we must first learn to be true to ourselves, and that means, whether we want to call it a resolution, a goal, or a promise, we keep it!

What do you think?

One of the many books I have on the go right now suggested that (can't remember which book I was reading) we should set our goals then forget them and work the plan which is going to move us towards those goals.

So I don't get hung up on either, I mark my milestones as I achieve them knowing as I do so the path to my long term goal is progressing.

Reminds me of TS Eliot

"Between the idea
And the reality
Between the motion
And the act
Falls the Shadow"

It is easy never to make it from behind the shadow.

You need an implementation plan. A plan that ensures your goals and resolutions become your reality

I believe in both resolutions and goals ... with emphasis on goals. Years ago, I learned a simply goal setting strategy from Jim Rohn. His suggestion about carrying "focus cards" is my favorite. Anytime I feel I'm drifting away from my plan, I simply whip out the focus cards ... they help me "refocus" my time and energy.

Goals. There’s no telling what you can do when you get inspired by them. There’s no telling what you can do when you believe in them. And there’s no telling what will happen when you act upon them.~Jim Rohn
