Has anyone here ever ran out of gas before?

Postby Cookie Alicaya on Wed Nov 16, 2011 7:44 pm

Eeeek! Today was my very first "gas empty" experience ever!!! My kiddos were with me and my son said, "Uh, mom, this hasn't happened before!" It was such an experience. And did I mention we don't have Roadside Assistance? Yep, we don't. So I was on the phone with Progressive trying to figure out how much I'd have to pay out of pocket when a tow truck driver pulled over beside me. Blessings! I was wondering if I paid too much for it, though... he dropped us off a gas station.

So... how much should an out of pocket/cash tow service cost? :?

Sure we all have had this one time or another. The most important thing in that experience is did you go into panic mode? No you solved the problem! Whether we are running out of gas literally, flat tire or no spare, or if we do that metaphorically in other ways doesn't actually matter. It matters how we look at it and what we do about it!

.

I highly recommend AAA its worth every penny and more.
We've had it for over 10 years and I cant tell you how many times they've saved our butt.
Gas, a jump start, a tow, they even sent a truck to pull my truck out of a mud bog
hunting waaaay up in the woods one year; thank God we had cell reception - it was a mess.

Seriously one of the best investments we make each year.

Hi Lynda!
I so love that. I personally believe in the sovereignty of God in everything and now I realize that it doesn't matter if I paid the tow truck driver $25, $40, or $90 that day. God knows he needed that extra amount for something... and I was saved twice as quickly as I would have with any company's roadside assistance! ;)

Thanks Lynda. Be blessed always!

Hi Richard!
Hahaha... I can't begin to imagine how that "mess" looked like. Thank God indeed for cell receptions up in the woodlands! hehe... We're definitely going to consider Roadside Assistance now that this has happened. haha...

Thanks a bunch! Be blessed! :)

I think many of us have at one time or another. Every since gas prices have been on the rise, which has been what now, 4 years or better? I now use the half way mark as my gauge. Meaning I try to, like I said, try to, not let my gas tank get too much under half tank.

I started doing this because you never know when you might come upon an accident, construction or someother traffic jam. :o

And in the winter it's even more so wise to keep your tank at or above the half way mark. Keeps gas line from freezing up and, just in case the roads are so bad no one is moving, you can keep you motor running thus stay warm.

Also, as Richard mentioned, it is a worthwhile investment to have a roadside service, if your insurance does not provide it already.

Lastly get a taser, seriously, there are some nut cases out their unforunately. Or do as I do, I carry a big stick.

And your trusted cell phone. Wonder if they have those in a taser format. Wow a taser phone. 8-)

 I HAVE a big stick beside me at the driver's seat. I'm adding the taser phone in my Christmas wish list now. THAT will be wonderful! hehehe I thank God for sending us that tow truck that day, you know, because it was around 5pm already and days are now shorter here in TX. It was a blessing in every aspect to it.

But now I'm going to become better by making sure I HAVE Roadside Assistance coverage ;) Thanks, realdealwill! Be blessed!

Not considering the unusual vehicle breakdowns, you have to have hindsight on running out of gas. You have to guestimate (guess and estimate) how far you can go on a what's left in the tank. There are many indicators on the vehicles warning of low fuel.
I always test how far I could go once the low fuel light comes on.
I always reset the tripmeter back to see how far that amount of fuel will take me.
Checking the gas gauge before starting and see who drove it last!

Hi Cookie,
glad you got saved,it would be a wise decision
to invest in a breakdown policy, especially with
the onset of winter.
With the tasor phone does this mean you can zap
cold callers/
