Re: OptIn Forms - Love Em or Hate Em ?
If its something I'm interested in, I'll entertain the exit popup, and usually get a discount if I want to purchase.

With a proper HTML form you can indicate EXACTLY what information they put in, which is what your trying to do "Capture their Info" as it is one of the 4 pillars of marketing.
Also with the submit button you can program it to go to whatever page that you like. I personally use a Thank you page and give them a free info product as a gift. Others will give a One Time Offer etc.
Also then because I use an auto responder to create my form, it allows me to request a double opt in. Then there is no legal question as to whether my e-mail is CAN SPAM compliant.
With just an e-mail address you don't have that all important proof that person indeed requested information.
Just my thoughts. Let me know yours.
Using an email link doesn't limit you at all if you want
them on an email list. You get their name and email
address which is all that you should ask for anyway.
You can add phone, but you'll lose some opt-ins,
especially if it's mandatory.
You absolutely do not need double opt-in to be legal.
You don't need any more proof than the fact that they opted in.
I know, some people say you do.
They're wrong.
Besides, double opt-in will KILL your conversion rate.
Test it. Post your results.
I understand that you may want to "capture" all of you lead's
info.
It's pretty much been proven through testing that every box
you add to your opt-in form will lower your opt-in rate.
Nobody who makes tons of money asks for anything more
than first name and email address.
The phone number thing is worth testing, in my book.
I've said this before in another post:
The best thing is a "free" with shipping offer.
Then you can get ALL their info, including credit card.

I would test the exit opt-in. Just because you don't
like something, doesn't mean that it won't work.
We have had a very large increase of opt-ins on
certain sites with exit pop-ups.
But, as I said, it offers more information or
something new.
If I'm going to use a marketing product, I'm going to make sure I like it and I go ape-sh@# when I'm leaving someone's site and the screen goes dark and it says "wait a minute" and etc.
When I hit the X button on someone's website, it means I want to leave. I don't use exit pop-up because I absolutely hate them with a passion. I sell the floating ads creator in my store but I got rid of the exit pop in generators. My opinion is any ad or opt in used should be while you're still browsing the web page.
