To answer your question, Pete, the content that appears in the "Popular Today" section on the homepage is based on the number of votes and shares it receives. In the past, this was usually an excellent way to determine which content was the most popular among the community.

As Lynda pointed out, however, some BetterNetworker members have recently started joining up with "tribes," where everyone in a particular tribe votes for and shares each other's content. As a result, what appears in the "Popular Today" section doesn't always represent the entire community's opinion on what the best content is, but rather a small group of individuals who are part of the same tribes.

We are aware of this issue and are currently looking for the best solution.

However, I can assure you that, since we are aware that the number of votes and shares a piece of content gets are not always an accurate representation of the community's response to it, we do not rely on these numbers when selecting content to be featured in the weekly "What's Hot" emails.

Instead, we look for the content that is the most helpful, informative, and creative, that offers advice, tips, or training that's new and fresh, and that we believe the community will benefit the most.

I don't know if you saw it, Pete, but your article titled "10-Year-Old Boy Wonder Gets Started With His 'Slight Edge' Journey" was featured in the "What's Hot" that was sent on Friday, September 9th.

So rest assured, we do notice you, (and everyone else!) even if your content doesn't always appear on the home page.

Thanks for your patience, everyone, while we look for a solution! :)

Hey Jason Better! Great to have you join this thread and answer my question. Oh so I get it now. I pretty much see how it works now.

Yes, I definitely saw it and I was jumping up and down after seeing it... LOL It was the first time one of my articeles was featured by Better Networker. It was definitely an awesome experience! That was my goal since I joined BN. Looking forward to do it again! :D

Thanks Jason! Great to hear that! Everyone with BN is definitely awesome! :D

There's a colossal lesson in here guys...

I wont say its a right vs wrong concept, as much as it is "evergreen vs short sighted."

If an intimate team like we have here at BetterNetworker is "aware" of this issue
then suffice it to say the bigger players such as Google are as well.

The reason you are able to pinpoint certain elements such as "who" seems to pop up a lot, etc.
is because this type of behavior always leaves a footprint.

There is nothing wrong with tribes.
The key is utilizing that power responsibly.

Consider an important aspect of evergreen marketing...Search Rankings and Indexing,
which are heavily influenced by content quality.

Do not make the mistake of thinking they do not pick up on these footprints. It is just a matter of time until measures are put in place to counter abuse. Just as they are being dealt with here at BN.

What you find more times than not is a feeding frenzy of newbies following the leader.
While it may give you a trinket to brag about for a few months while you chalk up so called lead counts, eventually you see chaos and a wake of unsuccessful people that followed your lead, which is now dried up because the "strategy" was cheapened and treated as a novelty.

The point again is Evergreen vs Short Sighted.

As with many things that have come and gone in this industry, passed off as "the secret strategy" or "magic bullet" they almost always crumble under the foot of long term, stable, foundational marketing principles that have stood the test of time.

And businesses that adhere to evergreen methods are rewarded.
While the rest have their accounts shut down, campaigns and websites banned, etc.
But the most dangerous consequence is the mar they leave on the industry.

Again, I hope the people truly listening take away a priceless lesson here.
Stop chasing shiny objects and get yourself grounded in what works - long term.

PS:
On that note...
The least of the shiny objects we should chase is the dumb shit someone else is doing.
Let it go.

Focus on your business and finding people to connect with that share your idea of quality and long term stability for your business and strive to implement a philosophy of evergreen practices.

With each decision you make as a business owner ask yourself...
Will this serve my business's long term goals or am I chasing a shiny object?

Follow your heart instead of the circus and you will find long term success.

Wow! That's definitely an awesome answer Richard and you really do make a strong point here. Thanks for sharing your ideas. :D Have a great weekend ahead!
