Yeah, I believe it goes both ways when you think about it. It does make sense to target those who are already in network marketing because they are already there. But you do have to make an effort to go outside of the can to bring in additional business professionals, stay at home moms, people who are tired of their JOB.

Another side to it is... what if you were working with a great company in the network marketing industry and you were trying to help people from their company taking advantage of them? What if the company they represent has some cruddy stuff in the fine print that maybe most don't realize and your goal is to help point that information out in hopes to help them?

I believe this discussion could go on and on. I feel the targeting does need to go outside the can though, for sure!

Hi Mike

This has been some of the best reading I've done in a long time.

As I kept reading through the posts, my thinking on your "comment" was very much parrallel with Deborah's. I can literally picture a funnel with a growing crowd of people pouring through the same system, it's going to slow down considerably.

All the comments have been incredibly thought provoking, I've printed Eric's contribution so I can read through it a few times, it was excellent!

Many thanks,

Great learning here for me, so thanks Mike & everyone.

Your confidence will grow with time. What's my secret? What's anyone's secret. No secret. No secret that I have leveraged what I've learned at Renegade University to help me get this far, but it goes much further than that, it's having the attitude of a learner and getting messy for awhile until the picture comes together.

Thanks Eric for mentioning this - I am very messy at the moment, but I know & believe that the picture will come together. All I need to do is keeping the correct attitude towards learning & teaching.

Great post,

although targeting people already in our industry is a sound, productive and rewarding process.....
there is a whole new market that should be part of your overall game plan... I believe strongly in
utilizing a Self Branding Attraction Marketing System that is Industry specific to attract people that are looking for leadership or are between opportunities or struggling with their current biz etc.. but I also believe strongly in exposing professionals outside of industry to our business model... I believe this is where the "REAL" Big Fish are....

I love Todd Falcone's Course titled "The Insider Secrets to Recruiting Professionals" It is an absolute goldmine and focuses entirely on this HUGE and Ever Expanding Market. I highly recommend anyone who is serious pick up a copy....

Think about Real Estate Agents, Mortgage Brokers, Insurance Professionals... the list goes on... Very High Quality Prospects indeed! and Hurting big time because of Economic Downturn.

...they have Money to invest.... They understand what it takes to be successful and their pocket book is taking a big hit.. so they are extremely motivated and surprisingly open-minded.....

As you position yourself as a leader through your attraction marketing campaigns... and you direct these types of people to our industry and business online... they will see you as somebody who they can trust in... they will see you all over the place spreading value and leadership.....

As Mike stated in regards to the Economy and "State of the Nation" people are more and more open to what we do... to finding a better way... to building their OWN security. The market is so wide open and those of us that go Outside the Industry stand the most to gain... If you just focus on Network Marketers you are not really going to be able to take advantage of the Huge Opportunity around us... It will just be business as usual.... However if you understand and learn how to tap into this alternate market... The World is your Oyster... so to speak....

Keep in mind this doesn't mean reverting back to old school network marketing tactics... you know the famous 3 foot rule etc..... It means taking your attraction marketing skills and applying them to a new market... a market that you can capitalize on by speaking directly to them... by positioning yourself accordingly.

Great Great Topic... Thank you Mike,

Best of Success,

Roger S.

I will have to say "sorry" if i repeat anything within this thread that someone else has already said, only time is getting on and i need some beauty sleep.(i havent actually read all the replies you see) However this is truely a great thread.
Since i started meeting people and making friends in this job I have Always followed my Heart and not my head. I very rarely follow the crowd cos i always like to be noticed!. Its rare to find someone in this business that doesnt sound like the last "Jo" i met at the last meeting or seminar!.. I love original thinking and i love change, I think this is what keeps a network marketer alive and on the ball. Why would anyone want to "copy" or duplicate the works of another, because sooner or later that "technique" will soon become worn out and "old news"... for instnace, i am very aware of all the "videos" and FREE information give aways and i am Highly suspicious of all of them as they all just want you to generate leads and in turn use your network for their own benefits. am i wrong?
Thanks for listening to me rattle on, hope it makes sense?

Gailsreps.... (I hope I am staying on topic here)

to answer your question kind of goes outside the scope of this thread but I just feel i need to address the videos/free info comment you made....

If someone is giving away Great Content... (FREE Information) that helps you solve a problem or helps you succeed in some way... is that not worth giving an email in return? I have given my email and name to countless free newsletters/reports etc.. over the years but have received tremendous value in return... That is one way to get into the circles of the most successful minds in the business. (Use some discretion of course) That is how we learn... I am on some of the greatest marketers email lists in the world... Mike Filsaime, Mike Dillard, Brian Fanale, Joe Vitale just to name a few.... I usually get tremendous insight and knowledge.. to get on these lists I had to respond to a video or offer of some sort.... even some much lessor known marketers have great tips and tricks that are shared through free content....

Sometimes the content is not great but i can always gleam some morsel of knowledge that certainly makes it worth me giving up my name and email or I can unsubscribe at any time if I am not satisfied with the information passed....

It's good to be skeptical but not at the expense of losing out on great information that could be really useful.

Just a passing thought as i read your post! This might be a long winded response to just one short sentence you wrote so I apologize... just wanted to share my thoughts....

Secondly... specific techniques may become dated and less effective as time passes but the methodology and the underlying psychology and reasoning will stay the same.... for example books on copy-writing from 50 years ago are as valuable today as they were the day they were written. Attraction Marketing is also not new just the way it is being applied.. Human Psychology hasn't changed just the tools we use have. So it's just a matter of learning attraction marketing from others and applying it to a Different Market that desperately needs what we offer.

Best of success to you,

Roger Silen

P.S. I think this thread is really about giving some serious thought and exploring the idea of expanding your marketing to people outside the industry.... Which would appear to be "outside the box thinking" in internet network marketing circles... however it is such a great market and certainly has less competition density then relying solely on replicated systems of any sort geared directly at other Network Marketers.....

Thanks Roger,
I suppose all i was trying to say was, as someone that has only ever done what you said in your P.S.

P.S. I think this thread is really about giving some serious thought and exploring the idea of expanding your marketing to people outside the industry.... Which would appear to be "outside the box thinking" in internet network marketing circles...

This is the 1st time i have ever talked with other network marketers. I dont have any "network marketers" on my team apart from a guy that tried door to door selling way back in his day. So, my answer to you roger is, that i havent done any of the things that Most networkers are doing and yet i seem to be getting on ok?! I dont think i would actually like to go down the road of videos and free info as it seems to be following the crowd. Please dont get me wrong, your absolutely right and it is the Free info that actually bought me to this site. Every body loves something for FREE, I do...

Secondly... specific techniques may become dated and less effective as time passes but the methodology and the underlying psychology and reasoning will stay the same.... for example books on copy-writing from 50 years ago are as valuable today as they were the day they were written. So it's just a matter of learning attraction marketing from others and applying it to a Different Market that desperately needs what we offer.

I get this point too, and it is the point i was trying to make, peoples needs havent changed, only their thought process and maybe the society they live in..So, keeping it simple and Unique to you as an individual networker surely is the key? By having the ability to attract people to you no matter what you are selling is all that is needed surely?
sorry if i have rail roaded anyone of the initial discussion. As for attraction marketing, i gladly give my thoughts ideas and marketing techniques away to my competitors in the UK, why? because they are not me! and no matter what i give them for FREE only they can make it there own.

Thank you Mike & Eric, in particular, for your comments and to the "original" article from Mike. Superb effort!!

A Decision Has to Be Made: Your Choice!

I want to begin my response to this thread by quoting Theodore Hesburgh (who was President Emeritus of the University of Notre Dame).

My basic principle is that you don't make decisions
because they are easy;
you don't make them because they are cheap;
you don't make them because they're popular;
you make them because they're right.

Beg to question: "What is right, then?" I believe each individual has to make that decision.

There's an enormous amount of information out there concerning the Internet, Netwoking, Attraction, SEO, etc. In fact, William Van Winkle (bodhi@cnnw.net) states that one can actually experience "Information Overload." Like me, you've probably been there...if not already! In his article about information overload (http://www.gdrc.org/icts/i-overload/infoload.html), Van Winkle claims that
Fighting data asphyxiation is difficult but possible ...

So, with that said, are we willing to make a choice and decide? Are we willing to accomplish "the difficult?" Are we willing to do what it takes to become successful at anything in our lives...especially Networking Marketing? Are we willing to make a decision to learn the skill sets to target BOTH MLM leads AND outside leads?

For Me...I Say "Yes!"

[*]Will this task before me be easy? No, it just won't be that hard.
[*]Will this task before me offer immediate success? No, it gives hope that, in time, success WILL come!
[*]Will this task before me build better character and create a uniqueness about me?

YOU BETCHA!!!!

I cannot make the choice for you. You will need to make the "right" decision that fits your life, situation, and destiny. The information for success is there. I can only share with you what I plan to decide about my life and, in turn, I pray that it helps someone else.

I Choose To Be Unique and Make A Difference in the Lives of Others

Although not exhaustive, I choose to:
1) Do what's right (Romans 12:1-2 & Theodore Hesburgh)
2) Stand out in a crowd & be myself (Mike Klingler)
3) Be clear, honest & consistent in all I do (Deborah Tutnauer)
4) Get messy & study REAl Marketing, knowing that it'll eventually bring clarity to the info madness (Eric Walker)
5) Move in new directions because I believe change can actually refresh the soul (Angela Brooks)
6) Learn to create Self Branding that is honest & trust worthy (Roger Silen)
7) Value others & provide assistance where ever & when ever it's needed

My Decisions Are Made...I WILL BE FREE!!!!!!

Well you got a huge point, my thoughts exactly. I have been reading alot on marketing online, and I have to say.If everyone is using the same kind of strategies then no wonder I am not getting any business. People are passing me by left, right and center. By the way I love your title. It made me laugh. I wasn't making fun I thought it was cute. bye from Jeanette
